Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
DUTIES: Provides personal care and related tasks/services in the home, under the direction / assignment, instruction and supervision of the team lead and administrator. CNAs will not administer medications, or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge, and skills of a qualified employee or licensed nurse. RESPONSIBILITIES: Follows the plan of care to provide, safe, competent care / services to the resident including infection control in the home. May assist residents with the following activities: * Self- administration of medications by reminding the resident to take medications and opening containers for the client. * Assisting with bathing * Housekeeping * Personal grooming and dressing * Eating and meal preparation * Oral hygiene and denture care * Toileting and toilet hygiene * Assisting with transfers to and from wheelchair / Bed * Taking and recording vital signs * Reporting abnormal vital signs or other findings to the team lead / Admin. * Administer basic first aid and CPR * Providing or arranging for social interaction Helps the resident to maintain good personal hygiene and assists in maintaining a healthy safe environment Assists the resident with ambulation according to the plan of care Encourages independence as much as possible according to the plan of care Attempts to promote resident's mental alertness, through involvement in activities of interest Gives simple, emotional, and psychological, support to the resident, and other members of the household, and establishes a relationship with the resident and family, which transmit trust and confidentiality Reports any changes in the resident's mental, or physical, condition, or in the home situation to the team lead / Admin. Performs routine housekeeping tasks, as related to a safe and comfortable environment for the resident, as instructed by the team lead / Admin. Attends in-service, as required by state and federal regulations or by Personal Home Care Policies Confer with the team lead / Admin about the resident's status and care. Participates in the planning of service. ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position includes tasks that have the potential for exposure to blood and body fluids / tissues and other potentially infectious material such as body fluids / tissues. JOB CONDITIONS: Hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform resident care. Corrected visual and hearing acuity required EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Use of blood pressure cuff, thermometer, stethoscope, and hand washing materials QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent Certified nurse aide certificate Must have a current CPR certification Has successfully completed a state approved nurse aide training and competency evaluation program Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to the resident, self and co-workers Must comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation Must understand, and respect residents including ethics and confidentiality of care Must be able to pass a criminal background check through COGENT / GAPS
