The essential duties and responsibilities of a Certified Nursing Assistant include, but are not limited to: • Demonstrates dependable, regular, and consistent in-person attendance and punctuality. • Provides all the duties, responsibilities, and functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant that promote resident health, comfort, security, and wellbeing. Monitors own work to ensure quality. Meets productivity standards, completes work in timely manner, strives to increase productivity, and works at a quick but measured pace. Works with integrity and ethically, and upholds organizational mission and values. • Provides care with a smile. Manages difficult or emotional resident situations. Establishes and maintains friendly relationships and interactions with residents, and engages residents in topical conversation while providing care. Acknowledges residents’ preferences, special accommodations, personal interests, and solicits feedback to improve service. Creates a hospitable environment of welcome, positivity, and calm for residents. • Ensures all residents are free from abuse and are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect. Respects rights of residents regarding freedom of choice, consent for care and services, refusals of treatment, and implementation of advance directives. Promptly consults with a Supervisor, Unit Manager, Department Manager, and/or Social Worker if unsure of proper course of action. • Makes daily rounds on assigned unit, at minimum at the beginning and at the end of shift, to observe, examine, or interview residents; to verify information from prior or ongoing shift; to monitor regulatory compliance; and to provide or receive reports. Room and floor assignments are subject to change daily. • Reviews resident care plans on a daily basis. Provides prompt care. Follows direct care work flows and procedures. • Monitors residents’ conditions and immediately reports changes to the RN supervisor, the charge nurse, or unit manager. Communicates and reports resident concerns and care observations to the RN supervisor, the charge nurse, or unit manager, as required. • Answers resident call bells/lights and alarms promptly and urgently. Responds promptly to resident needs and requests for service and assistance. Provides aid when necessary. Ensures Call System alert is within easy reach of resident. • Feeds and/or assists in feeding residents. Maneuvers residents near meal trays so they can feed themselves. Assists resident during the meal (e.g., cuts meals into bite-sized portions). Passes fresh water and drink during meal and throughout the day. Removes soiled trays. Performs after-meal care (e.g., wiping food debris from face and clothing). Observes eating and drinking patterns. Records residents’ food and drink intake, and output. Observes NPO restrictions. • Inputs and updates resident health and care information in EHR system, including notes and memos. Ensures accuracy of input data. Inputs vital signs such as temperature, weight, and other medical information. • Collects lab specimens (e.g. urine feces, sputum; measure emesis). Manages drainage outputs. Applies ice bags, hot water bottles, and K-pads. Administers enemas and suppositories. • Performs restorative and other maintenance functions and exercises after physical, occupational, or speech therapy treatments have been discontinued. This includes, but is not limited to, ambulation, range-of-motion exercises, therapeutic massage, activities of daily living, transferring, and feeding programs. Assesses needs and follows through with care and cleaning of splints and adaptive devices. • Assists patients to and from bathroom or commode (toileting). Uses Hoye
