Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Description
I. Job Summary: The Caregiver will responsible for providing in-home care to seniors. The task may include: • Companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, clothing shopping, running errands, organizing incoming mail, grooming and dressing assistance, recreational activities • Ambulation assistance, transfers, bathing, medication assistance and toileting assistance • Meeting with family and care coordinators to review the clients situation • Providing transportation to physician appointments • Providing any additional duties that caregiver has been trained in and is determined to be competent in, as long as those duties fall within the Texas licensing regulations for Personal Assistance Services. II. Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, sit, stand and drive for long periods of time.. Must be able to reach, bend and stoop for prolonged periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 40 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to do heavy lifting in regards to transferring clients. III. Essential Job Functions: • Maintain client confidentiality • Maintain personal confidentiality. Personal situations are not to be discussed with the client. This includes home and family, employment details with Compassionate Care. Personal contact information is not to be provide to clients. • Provide assistance to the client in activities of daily living, within the scope of services of a Personal Assistance Service. • Prepare meals, complete household tasks such as cleaning and laundry for the client. • Complete errands, transport client and shopping for client as needed. When these tasks are requested by the client, the request must be reported to the field office for approval. • Reporting any violation of the client’s rights, or perceived acts of Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation. • Report damage to client’s property immediately. • Maintain, complete and submit all documentation on time and in a professional manner. • Ensure reliable transportation to and from shifts. • Be punctual and professional at all times. • Other duties as assigned. IV Organizational Relationship: Caregiver reports directly to the Client Care Coordinator and Administrator. V. Qualifications/Experience: • A minimum of one year experience in caring for those that are elderly or have functional disabilities, verifiable through licensed PAS or Home Health Agency • High moral standards of honesty and integrity • Must be able to read, write and speak English • Valid driver's license • Must be able to pass criminal background screenings, pre-employment drug screen and have a clean driving record. • Must present a positive and professional demeanor and be able to communicate with people of different backgrounds and educational levels.
