Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Description
Applications are currently being accepted for our Resident Care Assistant Program. A Resident Care Assistant receives on the job training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. In addition to employment, Hillcrest Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will offer financial sponsorship into the C.N.A Certification Training Program. This program requires a one month commitment Monday through Friday in the evenings and is in collaboration with Integritus Healthcare. Various shifts and commitments are available and can be discussed with Human Resources or the hiring manager during interview. Duties & Responsibilities Make sure call bells are within resident's reach. Answers call bells on each resident within 2-3 minutes of coming on. Visit with residents (i.e., read their mail, newspapers or books to them, transport them for visits outdoors when within residents care plan, transport to activities, help to write letters, make telephone calls, etc.) Transport residents to the dining room for meals. Pass, set up and collect trays for independent residents. Make beds of residents assigned to you and work together as a team to make sure all beds on unit are made. Organize, straighten and clean closets and dressers (i.e., clothes hung neatly on hangers in closet, folded neatly in drawers, trash and soiled laundry removed.) Ensure personal care items are put away and stocked (check with Team Leaders or Nurse Manager for appropriate stock.) Report resident's intake to Team Leaders. Check residents' drinks at bedside 3 times per shift and verbally encourage residents to drink. Offer the resident nourishments and/or distribute nourishments from the dietary department 2 times per shift. Check fall precautions: bed monitor, mats and personal alarms. Perform other non-direct care duties as directed by charge nurse and/or certified nursing assistants Unit-Related Duties Transport resident to hairdresser and activities. Check and clean dirty wheelchairs after each meal or after incontinent episode. Check and clean tub and shower room 2 x per shift. Clutter Management: When making rounds 3 x per shift, the following should be considered: when making room rounds, REMOVE AND/OR PUT AWAY linen, personal care items (i.e, shampoo, teeth, soap bath basin, hairbrush and comb), treatment items (i.e., bandages and ointments), newspapers, clothing, all cups except one water and/or other beverage, bedpans, urinals and tube feeding syringes or sink, bathroom railings or paper towel holders. No items on backs of TV, floor, beds, nightstands, sills, overbed tables or chairs. Greet newly admitted residents upon admission, escort to room as necessary, receive paperwork from referring agency and inform Assist in maintaining nursing service work areas in a clean and sanitary manner. Direct visitors to residents' rooms, office areas, etc. Assist in preparing written and oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities to submit to such committees as directed. Photocopy and fax according to the needs of the unit. Maintain par levels on unit, coordinate with information. Adhere to all company safety policies. Follow company policies and procedures. Adhere to company dress code. Education Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education. Requirements Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
