Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description
RN duties, Involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions & circumstances *Responsible for the supervision of the total nursing activities during each tour of duty and entire facility on weekend if charge. *Maintain professional competence through attendance and participation in continuing education programs, seminars and professional activities and programs *Determine employee work assignment and has the authority to make changes and revise duties as needed to meet resident needs with DON/Administrator approval. Is responsible for the completion of staff assigned duties *Assign/approve break times when on duty if necessary *Responsible for following the facility grievance procedure and adjusting or suggesting solutions to resolve such problems. These must be fully documented according to policy *Involved in the orientation and training of new employees in their job duties when assigned by DON/Administrator. *Responsible for attending meetings on a regular basis and participates on various committees assigned *Make daily resident visits to observe and evaluate physical and emotional status, room condition and compliance to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures. *Ensure that the resident nursing care plan is being followed *Transcribe physician’s orders *Perform therapeutic measures prescribed by attending physician, including medications and treatments *Participate in the development of the interdisciplinary plans of care and implement restorative nursing measures *Ensure necessary documentation is complete describing the nursing care services provided, resident responses and status *Is aware of the nutritional needs of the residents and monitors the fluid and food intake; ensure documentation Is complete and accurate *Keeps DON informed of the status of residents and other related matters via written reports and verbal communications *Notify the DON, physician and family of change in the resident condition, i.e. Injury, accident or adverse change *Complete incident/accident reports’ and follow through *Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician *Ensure the narcotic records are accurate for your shift and signatures in place *Notify the DON of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift *Receive and give nursing report upon on reporting in and ending shift duty hours *Will be expected to assist the LPN’s, MA’s and C.N.A.’s in any area needed *Report occupational exposures to blood, bodily fluids, infectious materials and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facilities policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents *Report and investigate all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of resident property *Communicates with medical staff, nursing service and other department supervisors *Works in office area as well as throughout the facility if directed *Pass medications *Perform cart duties *Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction to new programs/strategies and regulatory action
