My mother has had difficulties with old age. At 90, a stint in the hospital requires her to get physical therapy to go back home. Belmont Manor is a great place with excellent care and empathy. I am very grateful to the nurses and staff there. The next visit will be her 4th visit so I guess you can say that we are repeat customers. Thank you.
*** THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE REHAB PORTION OF THIS FACILITY*** Ok first off the 2nd star is for the atmosphere- located in a quiet residential area of Belmont near busy Waverly Sq with a warm, welcoming lobby. The nursing staff seems friendly as well, though I got a feeling they may be a bit inexperienced when I was talking with them (I'm a former paramedic and nurse). That's where the good part of this story ends. My 82 year old father with dementia and essential tremor WALKED into this rehab after a lengthy admission at MGH. He was there to increase his strength and mobility. He was placed in a room with a very nice roommate. Over the course of 9 days, my father was supposed to get rehab at least once and sometimes twice daily according to the rehab staff. Upon discharge, it was found that he had lost almost 15 pounds in the 9 days, had barely eaten, and was bed-ridden and unable to stand without full support. Upon conducting an investigation including interviews with the roommate, his wife, nursing/rehab staff, and obtaining his complete medical/rehab record it was determined that he only received 2 rehab session over the 9 days, was given food and then left on his own to eat (with the essential tremor it was difficult for him to open/uncover things) and his roommate reported his food plate was basically full when it was taken away later. He was also left in bed and not ambulated to a chair for any length of time. He had also developed pressure injures from being in bed for so long. As I stated he WALKED into the facility on his own with just a walker. He had to be ROLLED out in a wheelchair on discharge day and physically supported while getting into the car to take him home. 3 months later I am writing this and he is still having mobility issues and has not returned to the baseline he was at when he was discharge from MGH to this facility. So if you have a choice in rehab I highly recommend Encompass (this was our first choice but they were full). If you have no where else to go and this is the only place left.... just go home and get home PT/OT. You'll be better off. P.S. Oh yeah and they lost my father's clothes TWICE leaving him naked in just a t-shirt/diaper one time and just a diaper the second time. First time it was because his clothes were sent to the labeling department and got misplaced there-all residents' clothing must be labeled with names. The second time, apparently there where two residents with the same common last name and his clothes were put in the other patient's room after being laundered. I still wonder if their medications ever got mixed up.
My 100 year old mother has been at Belmont Manor for 19 months and I am so happy with the care and love that she receives. She was on Unit 1 for the first 6 months and was moved to Unit 4 due to her dementia issues. On both units she has had amazing aides and nurses. And the activities staff & physical and occupational therapy staff are terrific. In fact staff from Unit 1 and PT& OT stop by just to say hi to her. All staff, including housekeeping and maintenance are very responsive and caring. It is very hard to move your loved out of their home to a skilled nursing facility, but if it has to happen Belmont Manor is where to go.
My father had not been doing well for awhile, and so we worked with a case manager who recommended Belmont Manor. My father passed away last week, but during his time at Belmont Manor, the staff truly treated him like their own father. The staff is incredible and my dad was always clean and taken care of. These people are angels. Would recommend Belmont Manor to anyone who's loved ones need a little extra help.
My 100 year old mother has been residing at Belmont Manor for over two years and I could not be more pleased with her care. Her caregivers are full of compassion, caring and thoughtfulness. Everyone from the front desk to nursing staff, activities ladies, physical therapists, maintenance are terrific. I would highly recommend Belmont Manor.
