Medicare Coverage: Medicare covers skilled nursing facility care for up to 100 days following a qualifying hospital stay of at least 3 days. Days 1-20 are fully covered by Medicare, days 21-100 require a daily coinsurance payment. Many residents also use Medicaid, private insurance, or pay privately for long-term stays.

Questions to Ask: When visiting a nursing home, ask about: staff-to-resident ratios and RN coverage around the clock, how they handle medical emergencies, activities and therapy programs, how they communicate with families, their approach to falls prevention, and policies for managing resident complaints.

We had a very positive experience with Thornwald Home. My mom was in the hospital for 3 weeks, and was in need of a skilled nursing facility for 2+ weeks before she could transition home. Our social worker at Thornwald, Kathleen, was very supportive in our onboarding process all the way through to our transition to home health at the end of our stay. The medical staff was phenomenal in their care and ongoing support of my mom's complex needs with her wound care, and the ongoing OT and PT helped her gain the strength, balance and independence to be able to transition home safely. She also thought the food was great, the variety of the menu was wonderful, and the facility was very clean. It's never an easy situation for your loved one to need this level of care, and I have to commend all of the social workers, nursing staff and therapists that manage and triage so many needs at the same time. They truly are a blessing, and I'm so grateful for all of their support during a vulnerable time in my mom's healing process. I can't say enough good things about our experience at Thornwald.

My mother is at Thornwald and our family is very pleased with her care. Clean, friendly staff, returns phone calls promptly, has all the amenities one could ask for. The only thing I wish the facility would provide is transportation for residents in case the resident has no way to make it to a dr appt. Sometimes we are unable to provide it and have to reschedule at the last minute. Other than that we have no worries of our mother's care.

I could not ask for a more attentive and caring staff than what my Mom has at Thornwald currently, they truly care about the residents, not just a job. I've seen them hug, and cry with them at difficult times. I feel so confident letting them in charge of her. Recommend them over all else. We are blessed that she is in Thornwald.

My dad stays here and I am very happy with the staff, services offered, and the food. I honestly don't think that I could wish for a better place to take care of my dad. Everything is great. Would definitely recommend.

So far, we have had no problems with the care, the attitudes, the food. Everyone clearly acts as though they love the residents and want the best for them. One person in charge went so far as to bring in a TV for a resident who was going to be without one for a week. That is going above and beyond.
