Dad was transported via ambulance. He has advanced COPD and needs oxygen. Showed up an hour later, 4pm, with my mom. No one at desk. Rang Bell for couple minutes. No one. I started to wander, found girl in cafeteria doling out jello. Asked for some kind of help. Mystery Guy leads us to dad's room and ghosts. We go in. Dad propped up in a room half the size, (and with furniture apparently salvaged) from a Howard Johnson. Just sat, eyes closed, still, but mouth gaping open and closed like a fish out of water. I try to get him to open his eyes. Seemed to be stroking out, no oxygen, no cognitive response. (He was talking yesterday) I was horrified, started to weep and beg for help. I asked for mgr, nurse or Dr. Was told by another mystery figure that The Nurse was busy. Long story short, I broke down in bathroom, but never shouted at or verbally abused anyone. I had expected smooth handoff of care but no one had clue of his poor condition, medical needs (oxygen) and he wouldn't come to. I ordered ambulance to take him back. Walked outside to compose myself for a minute till amb. arrived. There was a police car outside. The effing Nursing Home Staff had called the COPS on me! It was an experience scared into my soul forever. They are uncaring, incompetent, and unprofessional. I have never had the bloody police called on memy entire life. That is one very horrific place. Everyone said it was highly rated compared to other elder Care places in area. God knows what they must be like. BTW. An hour later Dad was awake, lucid and comfortable at Ripon Hospital. I swear. They ignored my father losing consciousness but were oh, so very, very quick to call the police on an anguished family member, merely expressing grief, fear and confusion at the utter lack of... Any.Thing. Dad said 'Kill Me Son" while he languished in painful neglect. This dump never even responded to my blistering recount... because Truth Is Always An Affirmative Defense when posting. Can only imagine what happened when Covid came. Welcome any updates to this 'Senior Citizen Warehouse" By the way... Having current or former employees posting as a favor... Is sick, sad, and 100% self- aggrandizing rebuttal to Truth. I don't know why it still haunts me years later... The Police? My Dad critically unstable during the Jello Trough? Just knowing deceit, ineptitude and dereliction of duty/ standard of care? All. Dad died without dignity or options. Asking me to end his misery will haunt me always. He deserved dignity for a lifetime of hard work and pride in his skills and mentoring hundreds. Sometimes others, in an hour... can change your life at their behest. Their choices. And I cannot forgive these strangers.
