My mother came here after a surgery. She was told this was a "5-star skilled nursing facility" but couldn't be further from the truth. Her first night there I called her and she told me they put her in a diaper, even though she is fully continent of bowel and bladder. While I was on the phone with her the nursing personnel came into the room when she hit her button and asked to go to the bathroom. The female told her to " go in your diaper and I will come change you". This is deeply insulting to the human condition and demonstrates a lack of empathy and understanding. On top of this, pain meds were always late until her doctor was able to get them scheduled so her pain could be under control. After her first week the "head nurse" came back from vacation and told her she "runs a tight ship", obviously not tight enough that when she is away, they cannot uphold a modicum of standard of care. When the head nurse returned things got slightly better, but only after multiple phone calls were made advocating for my mom. There were days that her surgical wound bandage was not changed. Eventually she had to return to the hospital where she found out her surgical wound was not properly cared for and had to get a procedure for irrigating the wound and placing a wound vacuum. Possible blessing in disguise since she now does not have to go back to this terrible place. She spoke highly of her therapists saying they were the only decent acting people in this building, to them I say thank you, and to the nursing staff who seem to have forgotten the Nightingale Pledge, I say shame on you and do better. The most vulnerable of people are depending on you, do for them as you would want done to your loved ones.
My mother stayed there for several nights. She said the food was barely edible. Staff was elusive if she ever had questions about her medication or care. Weekend overnight staff didn’t seem to know what was going on. Her room smelled like urine when she checked in and there was an ammonia smell in the hallway. Only when we talked to the case manager was the smell addressed. My mother was dismissed when she asked about her medication regimen that she’s been on for years. I never saw a doctor or a nurse when I visited her and she said the same. No medical personnel checked on her during the day. Only staff brought her medication or food if she wasn’t in the dining room. The only bright spot, she said, was physical therapy.
My grandmother has been staying here. Within the first few days, she fell and the nurse questioned her several times as if she was lying. My grandmother felt helpless most of the time there and only enjoyed her time there when she had time with other residents there. She was encouraged to use a diaper, even though she was completely able to use the bathroom with assistance. There were many unfortunate events, the worst being that she fell again and is now back in the emergency room with a broken hip. They did not notify any family about this incident until 7 hours later.
The staff is rude and neglectful. They neglected my dad on numerous occasions landing him in the hospital several times. One time specifically, the nurse on duty, Simon, neglected him and dismissed his concerns. I drove all the way up there with my toddler at 9pm because I was concerned. Still Simon told me he is fine and doesn’t have a fever. I opted to call 911 and send him to the hospital. Come to find out he was septic from an infection and was admitted with a temp of over 102. When I reported this to the previous director, his response was they would do more training with the staff. This place is horrible. I finally got my dad out of there and he is much happier. Also, a nurse was arrested for sexually assaulting a patient and they never notified the residents or families. My dad found out from one of the aids that work there. LOOK ELSEWHERE
After being diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer and going through several medical procedures at Baylor due to various complications. My mom spent 2-weeks in their rehabilitation program to rebuild her strength for her upcoming chemotherapy. And found everyone to be extremely friendly. There were a few issues, which we were happy to see management quickly resolved. My remaining items would be to upgrade, the meals and changes to the parking with more spots in the front lot.
