Even Though my grandfather has Covid, he’s an amazing man and shows all his love. I love him so much.
I Spent a Week There.. The Food Is Great! That Bad Thing is They Don't Give You a Choice on What You Want To Eat? Most Place's Offer Plan A or B. & You Pick Which One You Want? And on Some Meal's The Portion's Were Very Small. For the Most Part the Staff is Good>! How Ever Like Any Place. You Alway's Have a Couple That Don't Like Their Job's & Take it out on You! But For The Most Part I'd Go Again>!
Pheasant Wood Center is a terrible facility. Pheasant Wood Center DOES NOT CARE about your loved one. They are a FOR PROFIT organization. They serve a lot of veterans which makes this doubly shameful. This place should be shut down with immediate effect. My friend had a stroke and was sent there to rehabilitate. There were large stains on the carpet in the hallway. There were multiple filled garbage bags on the floor in the main hall way. Large laundry bags on the floor. Carts and equipment cluttering the halls. There were needle syringe covers on the floor. My friend's roommate was left to sit in the common area in the middle of the night to "tire himself out" because he fell out of the bed a couple times that night. The smell of feces and urine permeated the halls. The furniture looked like it all came from Goodwill. It was old, scratched, and dirty. The bedspread was torn and the sheets were threadbare. The beds look as though they are from the 1970's at best. The bed rails are nowhere near the height and length of standard modern beds. The mattress was covered in what I can only describe as some type of durable gymnastics mat material and it was terribly thin. The nursing care was abysmal. They put him on a high carb diet but he should have been on a high protein diet. It took several days of complaining to get that corrected. My friend (who is recovering from a serious stroke) was allowed to stay outside (in the sun) all day long which caused a pretty good sunburn on one side of his body. He went nearly two weeks without being given a shower or having his nails trimmed. It wasn't until I spoke on his behalf that he got a shower. He waited (on more than one occasion) for nearly an hour to be taken to the toilet. Therapy was a joke. We received little to no therapy for his speech or for the use of his affected arm. So now his hand is curled into the shape of a fist and he has zero use of it. His speech is getting worse every day. When did see a therapist, which was not often, the therapist didn't have the right equipment and when she did get the equipment she didn't know how to put it on him. We had to watch YouTube a video for instruction. They didn't have any ankle brace for him, which he needed to keep his foot straight and flat and it took over a week to get one. When they did git the brace, it didn't work for him and I had to order one from Amazon. He had a lot of nerve pain from the stroke and when he complained to staff he was given Advil which didn't help at all. FINALLY we found out that he should have had a pain med prescription the whole time but for some reason it never happened. THEN - he was released without having the appropriate prescriptions sent to the VA to be filled. They also told us his appointment at the VA for a wheel chair lab was at 3pm but it was actually at 2pm so we travelled over an hour to the VA for NOTHING. He was supposed to have home healthcare facility set up to do home visits when he was released. They never came and they never called. When he reached them, the number they had for him was incorrect. He was released without home equipment like a commode, tub transfer bench, wheelchair, etc. He has been home for 6 days now and has not had a single visit from a professional healthcare provider.
Our 87 yr old Dad became a patient/resident one month ago today @ Pheasant Wood after 9 days in the hospital after a fall. He has 9 broken bones that are healing and had a bout with both pneumonia & hospital delirium. We were all a bit worried about his insurance choosing this facility for him based on reviews. His full Nursing Care and Speech, OT, and PT as well as the Admin Team have all exceeded our expectations. If I could give a 10 star rating to these employees I would. They are significantly understaffed but work mostly with smiles on their faces. (I truly hope Genesis reads that last sentence on repeat.) So, why 4 stars? Truthfully, the facility is old and outdated, so much so that it feels dirty. It would not take much for Genesis to freshen up many of these cluttered, outdated spaces. Dad also won't give the food anything above 3 stars. But of course Mom is/was a chef in her prime! And the company must hire more of these skilled employees. So with all of that... HUGE KUDOS to Nic, Heather, Michele, Mike, Amy, Brad, Roni, and Randi. I will write again after this next month's stay to update our families thoughts and to name more of Pheasant Wood's employees by name. We all know 'it takes a village to raise a child.' I'd like to edit this for the adult children of these residents... 'It takes THIS village to take medical & physical care of our elderly loved ones!' Thank you all.
My father was taken there for temporary rehab, He spent less than 24hrs when he signed himself out.. He asked for help at 7:30am with personal care, family got there just after 10:30am and he had not yet had the help he needed.. Total neglect! I guess I should have known when we left him the day before... Whereas the nurse checking him in was extremely nice.. Not an easy chair in sight.. And this is person who's supposed to have his feet/legs elevated... LNA's sitting on the nurse's desk... Very unprofessional. The building definitely needs updating, and the hallway needed decluttering. And I had to wonder how old the beds were...
