My mother was a resident for 4.5 years. My family was very satisfied with her care. The staff was professional but also very caring. We really appreciate them.
The staff are amazing. Very quick to answer call lights, so nice to all patients, willing to help with anything. They have daily activities for all the live-ins, and outings to shops and the movies also. If you're looking for a place for your loved one, this is it. It may not be fancy, but it has the best staff you could ever want for your loved ones. They're amazing!!!!!
My mother had Alzheimer’s and spent the last 10 months of her life at Oakbrook. She was fortunate to have been placed on Hall 2 with Barbara as her regular aide. I can say that Barbara went above and beyond for my Mother and I would give her 10 stars. There were other aides and nurses that were kind as well but did not show the same level of compassion. I can’t tell you how many people said to me that Barbara was the only one that could get my mom to do things. She was experienced and patient with mom and for that I am grateful. There are not enough aides on duty to give the quality of care that the residents deserve. I was there daily until COVID-19 shut things down. I was approached a few times about moving my Mother to another hall where she would supposedly receive better care due to her Alzheimer’s worsening. I refused to let them move her from Barbara’s care and told them we would re visit the idea once things opened back up. I was my mother’s voice when she no longer had one. I visited my mom at the window on a Thursday and could clearly see she was declining at a rapid pace. I called and spoke with the nurses everyday and she was sleeping more and eating less. The weekend nurse felt like it wasn’t going to be long. I called Monday morning and shared my concerns and asked if I could visit my Mother. I was put on hold and told that the DON said I was unable to come visit. A few hours later I received a call that my mom passed away. I truly believe that the Director of Nursing deliberately said NO to my visit as a way to punish me. I know others who lost loved ones after my Mom that were let in to visit. The only thing that gave me comfort was knowing that Barbara was there with my Mother. My advice to anyone contemplating a nursing home is to speak up and be an advocate for your loved one.
This nursing home is not one I would recommend. They do what they want to your loved one and family has no say so. Our loved one was here 5 years and it was our fault for not finding another place sooner. It was nothing but a battle from day one with administration. Never met doctor and only had 2 meetings that we demanded the entire time they were there. Kept our loved one sedated with many falls.
My husband's grandmother has been in this facility for 4 years, and truly has thrived here. She has alzheimers. I call and check with her care team frequently to get care plan updates, do virtual visits, and plan for gifts with their social team. They have the biggest hearts for their patients. The nurses, staff, case workers, therapists, EVERYONE treats them like family. Though it is a difficult decision to move a loved one into a facility full time, for our family, it has truly been a blessing with the team of care givers at Oak Brook. Thank you!
