Good Shepherd Vista
Good Shepherd Vista
Good Shepherd Vista is a licensed residential care elderly located in Oakland, California. Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide non-medical care and supervision in a homelike setting for people 60 years and older who are unable to live independently.
Good Shepherd Vista has a licensed capacity of 22 residents. Services include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management. RCFEs also provide meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour supervision. Many offer specialized care for residents with memory impairment.
Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.
Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.
Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.
Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.
Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

My bedbound brother in law was cared for about 6 months here, prior to our moving the whole family to Colorado. I found staff to be attentive. They kept him clean, prepared him soft food diet, and worked hard to keep him mobile though he preferred to lay in bed. When we visited, the staff often found a couple more chairs to put in the room for our visit. The manager Hasmin was very responsive with communication needs, and went out of her way with the moving out process. I am a retired RN whose area of practice was hospice and nursing home care. The facility may not be "the Ritz" in decor but the residents appeared to be comfortable and happy.
My friend is here and although the staff is very nice (at least to visitors), they do not have adequate nutritional training. She is diabetic and they serve nothing but starch. I was there when dinner was mashed potatoes and gravy with crackers and a canned peach! Another time it was spaghetti. The final straw was when she was just back from the hospital where she was treated for very serious edema and her lunch was salty ramen!
Terrible! My father was a resident here. He walked across the street unassisted going to the store and was hit by a car. Hit and run. My father suffered broken toes and had to go to a rehab to recover from his injuries. I went to pick up a few of his personal items for him only to discover his room empty. They packed up all his belongings, and when I asked what was going on the staff all started speaking in Tagalog and told me they didn’t know what happened. I called the manager and she told me my father could not return, giving me no explanation. She never notified me nor my father of this decision. Very disappointed.
