PARAPROFESSIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION ACCOUNTABILITY: The Habilitation Technician reports to a Qualified Professional. The Qualified Professional provides supervision and receives reports and feedback from goal implementation. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum qualification: Graduation from high school or have the equivalent (GED). One year in a developmental disability or mental retardation support services setting helpful. 2. Possess the ability to observe, interact and/or document in a developmental disability or mental retardation setting. 3. Course completion in CPR. First Aid; Crisis Intervention, Seizure precautions, interpersonal relations and/or NCI and trained on Behavior Plan intervention. 4. Possess the ability to work well with others. 5. Must be adaptable, flexible, dependable, and able to maintain effectiveness during behavioral changes. 6. Possess communication skills and can apply them appropriately in all settings. 7. Able to implement written outcomes in the treatment habilitation plan. 8. Possess observation skills and can communicate them effectively through verbal and written statements. 9. Can follow directions and communicate change in conditions. 10. Must have your own reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance. 11. Must be punctual to work. 12. Must maintain First Aide, CPR, Medication Administration, NCI, Blood Borne Pathogens, and CAP CORE competencies training certification, and attend all assigned trainings. PAGE 2 13. Paraprofessionals shall demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities required by the population served. A competency-based employment system is used for demonstration of skills. Habilitation Technicians shall demonstrate competence as follows under the clinical supervision of a Qualified Professional: (1) Technical knowledge; (2) Cultural awareness; (3) Analytical skills; (4) Decision-making; (5) Interpersonal skills; (6) Communication skills; and (7) Clinical skills. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Works with a Qualified Professional to implement goals established by the QP. 2. Uses adaptive behavior skills to help client focus on self-help 3. Follows goals established accurately 4. Consults with the Qualified Professional for updates, observations, changes or needs of client. 5. Observes the client for response to goal implementation. 6. Documents observations according to the protocol established for each client. 7. Documents client’s behavior, intervention utilized and client response. 8. Documentation is legible, clear and concise. 9. Uses skills to enlist the most positive response in order to accomplish client goals. 10. Involves the client in appropriate and approved community activities. 11. Provides descriptive statements to clarify whether the client has or has not accomplished a stated goal and complete progress notes daily for Home & Community Supports, Day Supports, Supported Employment, Long Term Vocational Support or other habilitation services. Document provision of Respite and Personal Care. 12. Uses patience and tolerance in working with each client, their caregiver and team. 13. Creates an environment conducive to the accomplishment of goals. 14. Maintains effective lines of communication with all parties involved in a case. 15. Attends all in-services and updates as scheduled. 16. Submits all paperwork accurately and on time. 17. Reports to duty as scheduled. 18. Maintains a neat appearance in accordance with agency policy. 19. Attends all meetings as required in planning and evaluating client care. 20. Establishes and maintains a safe environment for the client at all times and respects their belongings and culture. 21. Follows agency policies and procedures. 22. Maintains confidentiality and follows HIPPA regulations. 23. Assists the organization in determining skills and specialties. 24.
