Caregiver Job Description
Provide a high level of customer service to residents and Team Members by achieving the standards outlined in the MG CARES program. • Assists in the development and implementation of all support plans. • Helps with high to low-level self-cares. • Helps residents maintain their household by assisting with laundry, budgeting, cleaning, and shopping. • Oversees meal attendance, making sure residents receive meals. • Assists residents with baths per Service Plan or more often as needed. • Assists program manager in designing individual programming. • Supervises, orders, documents, and distributes medication as allowed by state. • Reports illness, injury, or unusual incidents. • Ensures medication is stored properly. • On shift arrival, exchanges information with the last shift caregiver(s). Reviews log entries in the logbook. • Responds to calls promptly per policy. • Visits with residents when time allows. • Answers the phone on the evening shift and makes sure the building is secure. • Makes sure Offices and Med Rooms are clean and all trash is emptied after each shift. • Completes progress reports for Assisted Living & Garden House residents daily or more often if needed (Chart by exception). • Documents all services provided. Notes details of shift in the logbook daily. • Communicates with provider, supervisor, family member/significant other, and resident regarding health conditions both prescription and non-prescription. • Assures medications coincide with physician orders. • Manages medications and assists residents to self-administer. • Stores medications safely. • Orders and refills medications. • Logs all medications in MARS. • Destroys medications as needed in accordance with state and community procedures. • Documents all communication with providers, family/significant others, and residents according to company policy. • Continuously observes each resident for adverse reactions to medications and or signs/symptoms indicating the need for a change to medication regimen. Education: • High school diploma preferred. Experience: • 1-year experience as a Merrill Gardens Caregiver, CNA license, or 2 years industry experience as a caregiver immediately preceding Merrill Gardens employment minimum. Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications: • Current training/certification as specified by state agency or ability to obtain required training/certification within specified timeframe. • Able to obtain first aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment. • Current on all in-service hours. • Blood-borne pathogens training. • Able to communicate both written and orally in English. • At least 18 years of age
