We create a home environment for our residents and employees, and we are looking for team players who are passionate about caring for our exceptional people! A DSP position includes extensive personal care responsibilities (e.g., mealtime, dressing, toileting, bathing), but various other skills are required to deliver the services that support a high quality of life for our residents. This is a full-time position that requires schedule flexibility. Minimum Training and Experience: Must be 18 years old and have obtained a High School Diploma or equivalent. Prefer candidates with work or volunteer experience with individuals with Intellectual Disability (ID), but no previous experience is required. Must possess adequate written and oral communication skills. Must treat all employees with respect and in a manner that will promote teamwork and a positive working environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Provides active treatment, assistance, and/or instruction to individuals in the areas of dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing, eating, sleeping, behavior interventions, corrective devices, and medical care as needed. - Supports the operations of the program areas as assigned to promote a positive work environment for the staff and a positive home/school/day program environment for the individuals. - Engages individuals in accordance with their programs and plans. Ensures that individual programs and guidelines are followed and documented. - Uses positive reinforcement to encourage engagement from staff and individuals. - Participates in on-going training and in-services. - Makes on the spot corrections and reports any concerns to the shift supervisors in a timely manner. - Assists and supports individuals in the school, day program, or community inclusion environments to learn new skills, maintain existing skills, and/or choose and engage in activities. - Completes all required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner. - Addresses and corrects health, safety, and environmental concerns. - Adheres to Horizons’ policies and procedures. - Encourages teamwork among staff by promoting effective communication and resolving conflicts. - Makes appropriate decisions in emergency and other extenuating circumstances and/or notifies the Supervisor/Administrator-on-Call when situations arise that need clarification. - Must be able to lift, push, pull and move forty (40) pounds in performing various client movement with the possibility of client resistance and other physical requirements. - Other duties as assigned. 2nd Shift: 2:45pm - 11:15pm 3rd Shift: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am Job Type: Full-time; must be available to work weekends
