Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
I. PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS To give personal care and assistance in caring for the ill/aged, under the guidance and supervision of the registered professional nurse. II RESPONSIBILITIES A. Gives or assists with personal care B. Plans prepares or assists with nutritious meals and prescribed diets. C. Assists patients with prescribed exercises, which the patient and the aide have been taught and supervised by appropriate professional personnel. D. Assists with the patient and family to relearn rehabilitative personal and household skills. E. Assists with medications that ordinarily are self-administered and that are prescribed by a physician. F. Performs or assists with activities necessary to maintain a healthful, safe environment. G. Recognizes and reports promptly to the registered professional nurse any changes in the mental or physical status of the patient. H. Participates in patient care conferences I. Assists the registered nurse with specific assigned procedures. J. Requests assistance if unable to perform competently the assigned tasks. K. Records (in the clinical record) the activities carried out and observations made. L. Perform simple procedures as an extension of therapy services, personal care, ambulation and exercise, household services essential to health care at home, assistance with medications that are ordinarily self-administered, reporting changes in the patient’s conditions, and completing appropriate records. M. Will submit to an annual performance review. N. Will attend relevant 12 hours of in-service training programs within a 12 month period. O. Will receive and review a copy of the Saguaro Job Description and relevant policies and procedures for home health care and agrees to apply these to the care of any Saguaro patients taken under care. III QUALIFICATIONS A. Current certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant by the state of Nevada. B. Ability to read, write and carry out instructions. C. Previous experience as an aide and/or completion of a formal training program designed to prepare the Home Health Aide or participation and completion in an agency orientation/competency evaluation and training program. D. Interest and empathy for the ill and aged. E. Emotional maturity and physical good health. F. Evidence of a pre-employment physical exam or certification from a licensed physician within the past twelve months, that the person is in a good state of health, is free from active tuberculosis and any other communicable disease in a contagious stage, or a copy of an annual health assessment if employed longer than one year. G. Record of a two-step Mantoux tuberculin skin test prior to employment and an annual one-step Mantoux tuberculin skin test must be administered thereafter. An employee with a documented history of a positive Mantoux tuberculin skin test is exempt from screening with skin tests and is followed under the TB surveillance protocol. H. Must be fingerprinted according to Agency policy. I. Must be screened for Substance abuse according to agency policy.
