Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
The Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) is a valuable member of the Hearthstone health care team who works under the direction of the RNs and LPNs on duty. He/she provides direct care for Assisted Living residents, primarily for their activities of daily living. The NAC's job may include some medical support. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED; a current certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Washington; a Food Handler's Card; CPR, First Aid, Basic/Mod. Fundamentals, Dementia, and Mental Health certifications; and one year of experience. Working in this position, the employee may encounter blood-borne pathogens and other communicable diseases. Candidates must have a genuine desire to work with the elderly or disabled, good communication skills (speaking and writing in English), empathy and the ability to listen, basic computer skills, good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor. Shift: Sun, Mon, Thu, Fri, and Sat 6:00am to 2:30pm Responsibilities Provides respect and confidentiality for every resident Encourages residents in self-help and optimal level of independence and participation in activities Helps residents in and out of bed, into wheelchair, etc. Helps resident with dressing/undressing, personal grooming (trim nails, brush hair, apply make-up, etc.), oral hygiene, pre and post bathing routines (and helping with bathing when necessary), getting to/from activities and meals, toileting, peri care and adult briefs, dining/helping to eat, and repositioning (at least every 2 hours) Informs residents of steps taken during care Measures and records vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, etc. Keeps accurate records, reporting and initialing as required Reports all changes in condition, incidents, and/or accidents to the Nurse Attends in-service programs as designated by the Director of Assisted Care Services Assists with emergency care as needed Answers Lifeline promptly, and promptly notify nurse of Independent Resident lifeline calls Assists kitchen in setting and cleaning up tables as able Assists with exercise program as directed by therapists Delivers mail and helps with activities as directed Qualifications High school diploma or GED with further training to achieve certification Current WA Nursing Assistant Certification At least one year of experience preferred Basic computer skills to enter resident data and document services provided Able to accept responsibility and account for actions Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly Able to act calmly under stress and strain Able to effectively build relationships with residents and co-workers Able to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
