Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
The LPN Charge Nurse is responsible for the well being and nursing care of all residents assigned to him or her during his or her shift or tour of duty. He/she provides nursing services following the patient’s treatment plan or physician’s directions, assesses patients and responds to and reports any changes in condition, distributes and charts medications, and responds to emergencies. The ideal candidate has graduated from an accredited LPN program, holds a current unencumbered license as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and has at least one year of experience that includes experience in electronic medical records. Candidates must have good communication skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor. Responsibilities Makes rounds on all residents as needed Collects pertinent subjective and objective data regarding the health status of residents Delegates and monitors implementation of nursing process to appropriate staff Ensures accurate count of all narcotics by shift Communicates in a timely manner significant changes in resident's status to appropriate members of health care team Ensures new orders are transcribed correctly and necessary medications are requested from pharmacy in timely manner Reports all incidents and notifies appropriate individuals Reports all incidents of abuse, suspected abuse, and negligence Monitors and responds to emergencies as delegeted by Director of Assisted Care Services Participates in assessment, problem solving, resident care conferences, and discharge planning processes Supervises Nursing Assistants Qualifications Degree from an accredited LPN program Current Washington LPN license Experience in electronic medical records preferred One year of relevant experience Knowledge of state and local regulations regarding long term care Excellent computer and Microsoft Office skills Excellent communication skills, verbal and written Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Able to accept responsibility and account for actions Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly Able to actively attend to, convey, and understand the comments and questions of others Able to adapt to change in the workplace Able to communicate in English effectively with others, both verbally and in writing clearly and concisely Able to take care of resident needs while following company procedures Able to appreciate and be sensitive to the feelings of others Able to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards Able to be truthful and seen as credible in the workplace Able to act calmly under stress and strain Able to effectively build relationships with residents and co-workers Able to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
