Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Job Description
1. A licensed professional nurse who is responsible for the direct and indirect care of the residents. 2. This person is responsible for the nursing and nursing home during the day, afternoon, or night shift and provides such service under the direction of the medical doctor and administrator on call. Take and give report at the beginning and end of shifts. 3. Pours and give medications and prescribed. 4. Makes CNA assignments and assigns the taking of TPR’s, BP’s and weights as necessary. 5. Supervises CNA’s. 6. Gives or supervises giving of all prescribed treatments. 7. Notes and transcribes physician’s orders with the appropriate follow-through. 8. Assists with training and orienting of new CNA’s. 9. Replaces staff as necessary. 10. Recognizes significant changes in the condition of each residents. Notifies the resident’s physician and family and follows through with the appropriate action. Documents change of condition on resident’s chart. 11. Charts on residents that need to be charted on. 12. Does weekly summaries as assigned. Qualifications: 1. Current California licensed vocational nurse license or California registered nurse license. Knowledge and Abilities: 1. Train and supervise auxiliary personnel. 2. Take and transcribe physician’s orders. 3. Give medications as prescribed with good basic knowledge of side effects of these. 4. On their tour of duty, the charge nurse is in charge of and responsible for the total nursing care of the resident under direction of the medical doctor. 5. Organize and direct total nursing service on their respective shift. 6. Recognize changes in the condition of each resident and take necessary action.
