Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Description
Qualifications A. High School Diploma B. Be at least 18 years of age C. Demonstrate the ability to read, write, and follow a written Individualized Service Plan D. Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills E. Demonstrate dependability, tact, patience, and the ability to follow instructions F. Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision G. Licensed driver with automobile insured in accordance with state and/or Agency requirements and in good repair Responsibilities/Activities 1. Performs simple procedures, including but not limited to : a. Assistance in ambulation 2. Performs personal activities, including but not limited to : a. Bathing b. Shampooing hair c. Skin care d. Oral hygiene e. Shaving f. Dressing 3. Performs household services essential to health care at home, including but not limited to : a. Meal preparation b. Cleans bathroom and kitchen, including stove and refrigerator c. Personal errands, per client and Agency request d. Laundry e. Vacuuming f. Mopping floors g. Changing bed linens DUTIES • Functions within the limitations of the individual assignment. • Attends to the client’s request promptly. • Provides companionship and socialization. • Assists with meal planning, purchase of food, and food preparation. • Assists clients to live clean, safe environment. • Knows and follows infection control policies including proper hand washing techniques. • Maintains appropriate communication with the Administrator or PAS Supervisor(written and verbal) • Assists in the access to and documentation of medications that are ordinarily self-administered. • Reports any observed or reported changes in the client’s condition and/or needs to the Administrator or PAS Supervisor. • Follows the reporting guidelines on the Individualized Service Plan, • Documents care provided and completes the forms required for the client’s record. Completes the appropriate records to document care given and pertinent observations. Submits documentation per Agency requirements-at least weekly. • Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients by observing infection control practices, following Agency guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations of the Administrator or PAS Supervisor. • Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment. Does not use equipment until orientation about its operation has been provided. Notifies supervisor of educational needs. • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job. • Attends in-service programs to meet compliance requirements.Identify learning needs to Administrator or PAS Supervisor. • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary. • Treats clients and families with respect.
