Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Job Description
Observation and reporting any resident requests, needs, changes, or observations to the Administrator. Asking for assistance in the event all assigned duties cannot be completed. Function as a team, assisting coworkers as the need arises. Encouraging and assisting residents with a variety of planned recreational, physical, social, and educational activities. Responding to resident requests. Supervising residents and visitors signing in and out of the facility. Following safety guidelines in the facility, including proper lifting technique and standard precautions when providing care to the residents. Promoting open communication between health care professionals, families, residents, staff. Participate in all training as required by facility policy and regulation. Observation and supervision of residents. Reporting any abuse of any resident that they witness. If they suspect but do not witness abuse, they are still required to report the suspected abuse. Provide assistance with all activities of daily living and with all personal care including but not limited to grooming, hygiene, and assisting with and encouraging recreational, social, physical and educational activities. Maintaining the facility in a neat, safe and sanitary condition. Assisting residents with their medications as ordered by their physician. Monitor for side effects, expired medications, etc. Maintain neat, orderly medication storage area. Acting immediately on any resident crisis, following facility policy and basic first aid training. Care for cognitively impaired residents by using techniques for addressing the unique needs and behaviors of individuals with dementia; communicate effectively with cognitively impaired residents; communicate understanding of the behavior of cognitively impaired residents; respond appropriately to the behavior of cognitively impaired residents; use interventions to reduce the effects of cognitive impairments. Demonstrate understanding and support of Resident Rights by providing for resident privacy; maintain resident confidentiality; promote the residents right to make personal choices to accommodate their needs; reinforce behavior consistent with resident dignity; assist resident to participate in activities. Perform food service, duties include: 1. Check the menu items ingredients for quality, wholesomeness, and quantity. 2. Prepare meals and snacks. 3. Ensures all standardized recipes are followed as they are written. 4. Utilizes sound food handling practices for the storage and preparation for each menu item. 5. Maintains a strict “clean as you go” policy for ensuring a clean professional work environment. 6. Reports all equipment maintenance concerns to the Administrator. 7. Work with the Administrator, contributing ideas and suggestions in the planning of special theme/holiday occasions. 8. Provides therapeutically correct food items for special diets as directed by the Administrator utilizing physician orders. 9. Keeping the kitchen and dining area in a safe and sanitary condition. 10. Serving residents meals and snacks and meal and snack cleanup. Perform housekeeping services: 1. Vacuuming 2. Dusting 3. Cleaning of bathrooms 4. Cleaning of linoleum flooring 5. Spot clean carpet Perform resident laundry service to include: 1. Strip bedding and replace 2. Wash and return all clothes, linen and towels within 24 hrs. Perform major cleaning procedures on a scheduled basis to include the following: 1. Washing of windows inside and out 2. Carpet cleaning to include total extraction or spot extraction as needed. 3. The moving of furniture to vacuum or extract those areas. Provide cleaning services in vacant rooms in preparation for new
