BASIC FUNCTION Responsible and accountable for the effective overall management of a nursing unit or assigned hall and the provision of quality nursing care to all residents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Practices professional nursing that is consistent with the Department of Nursing’s philosophy and standards. 2. Participates in the interdisciplinary care approach to patients/residents and families. 3. Assesses the competence and performance of nursing staff as related to position description, standards of care, and facility policies. 4. Assists in maintaining safety and cleanliness in the work area. 5. Participates in the quality assessment and improvement process and activities. 6. Organizes and monitors human and material resources necessary for meeting the needs of the designated nursing unit. 7. Conducts self in a professional manner in compliance with unit and facility policies. 8. Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., CPR, protects patients/residents from injury, etc.). 9. Provides patient/resident/caregiver education as necessary. 10. Maintains confidentiality and patient/resident rights, regarding all patient/resident/personnel information. 11. Maintains knowledge of necessary documentation requirements. 12. Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance and use (i.e., monitors, infusion devices, drain devices, etc.). 13. Directs and assists in patient/resident care given by other nursing personnel. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of practice. 2. Graduation from a basic educational program in professional nursing. 3. A minimum of one (1) year nursing experience in a long-term care, sub acute or acute care setting is required.
