We are looking for a unique and experienced individual to join a new and growing hospice as the Director of Nursing (DON)/Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS). JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Hospice Program. Accountable for the planning, implementation, direction and overall management of the total Hospice Program. Insures delivery of highest quality of care and services through the agency. DPCS is ultimately responsible for the development and implementation of the Infection Control Program; directs Quality Assurance services, sales and bottom-line growth of Hospice. Manages Hospice personnel and operations in most efficient and cost effective manner. Carries out assignments as directed by immediate supervisor. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Oversee interdisciplinary team and the delivery of patient care services • Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines to fulfill program objectives • Oversee the maintenance of medical records, assuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with licensing regulations, certification standards, legal and ethical standards • Lead new hire orientation program for hospice staff personnel • Plan and implement ongoing staff education program for all team members • Participate in program development and overall agency planning • Participate in Quality Improvement / Assurance programs • Responsible for creating and managing financial budgets • Keep a full census through proper utilization of community and industry engagement Final salary is per employer discretion and commensurate with experience QUALIFICATIONS: Preferably a B.S. degree or higher in nursing or another health related field with three years experience within the last five years in a hospice or home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. OR A Registered Nurse with four years experience within the last five years in a hospice, home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. REQUIREMENTS: • Must possess a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of California. • Experience working with hospice patients. • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of terminal care with specific expertise in crisis intervention, family counseling, pain and symptom control, and bedside nursing. • Demonstrated skill in administrative performance, which includes expertise with communication, both written and oral, supervision of staff, documentation requirements, and service coordination. • Demonstrated ability to execute a supportive, sensitive approach to staff and patient/family.
