I went to visit a friend. The staff seemed nice enough, but her roommate's TV was blasting loud. She isn't told she needs to use headphones and doesn't turn it off when she leaves the room. I had a headache after 2 hours. Her room is smaller than hospital rooms so the large screen TV is only about 5 feet away from my friend's, which is more appropriate for the room size. But all of that could be overlooked if the staff would just require headphones!!

The CNA's and nurses for the most part are kind and helpful. There are some who should rethink their career choices. Rooms are kept clean and tidy. My only issue is when the staff don't talk to one another. The food is another issue altogether. The food is bland no flavor to it. Changing the name of the chicken doesn't make it different. It is the same chicken but just has a different name. Chef needs to somehow find a way to season the food without compromising the patients dietary needs.

My mother stayed here in May 2024 for rehab and it was terrible. As others have said, there were a few good nurses who actually cared, but mostly they were staffed by traveling nurses and people who did not keep a patient-centric approach. For example, two people were helping her on the commode and just complained to each other about their jobs as though she wasn’t in the room, and my mother couldn’t get a word in, when she needed help. Another person got frustrated with her on the day she was being transferred back to the hospital, and when he pulled her up in the bed, he gripped her under her arms so roughly that she was sure she was bruised and had to tell him to please stop, because he was hurting her. They didn’t control her blood sugar appropriately, gave her a full sugar coke and cake, didn’t test blood sugars consistently before meals. Interesting, because at Maine Med, they were able to keep her sugars much closer to normal. Another time, I tried to find someone to help her with getting some water, because no one had brought her any for most of the day, and I couldn’t find a staff person anywhere on the entire wing. Also, it regularly took more than 45 minutes for them to respond to a call button. They left my mom sitting alone on the commode for more than 30 minutes, with no access to a call button and no way to get up on her own. Another time, I witnessed a worker sitting at the nurses’ station just keep poking at his phone, actively ignoring both me and an elderly visitor needing help who approached the desk. After 10 minutes, another worker came out from the back, helped me, glanced at the other worker who was seriously just doing nothing, and then proceeded to help the poor guy who had also been standing there wondering how he could get some assistance. Definitely do not recommend this place. We let the staff at Maine Med know as well so they reconsider discharging people to Seaside.

Care is okay, but the facility is continually understaffed. The food is terrible. Plan to bring your loved one snacks, fruit and a meal when you visit.

My Mom was at this facility for a short-term rehab to gain strength after a fall resulting in multiple fractures. She had a spacious private room with a separate bath with a walk-in shower. The physical and occupational therapy provided was top notch and my Mom was back to herself in a couple of weeks. The nurses were attentive and caring, but definitely understaffed. If you need help to the bathroom, it took awhile. The food was average, at best. The saving grace was an "anytime" menu, which was much better. The rooms and facility are well maintained and Mom's room was cleaned daily. If you need a place for a short rehab, Seaside Healthcare is the place to go.
