EDIT: I am now learning that they gave my dad vaccinations without my permission or knowledge. Don't take your loved ones here! I rescued my dad from this horrid facility after 2 days. He fell within 3 hours of arrival. No, they didn't call the doctor or have him evaluated. He was supposed to have a place where he could elevate his leg, let his amputation heal, and get stronger so he could come home. There are no comfortable places where residents can sit with their legs elevated at all should they choose to do so. The director said they couldn't let people put their feet up because that is considered "restraints." The staff said, "Well, he could lay on the bed." His room only had 2 beds and 1 kitchen style chair. In the hospital, my dad was learning to transfer on one leg and was getting good at going from the chair to the bed or to the cammode. They didn't want to work with him on continuing to learn to transfer with 1 leg, so they stuck him in a diaper and a gown and let him just sit. The physical therapist who was working out by herself had no idea who he was. The rooms are dark and foreboding. The whole place is dark, tired, and smells weird. None of the residents looked very happy to be there. As we were leaving, the director told my husband that "Your woman is the problem. Whatever facility you go to, if there are problems, it will be your woman." I drove him straight to the ER, where he was put on antibiotics, and we learned that the sitting had caused edema and infection to set in. The one star is for David, the maintenance director. He is the only reason I gave this place a chance in the first place. We are building our home and currently live in our RV. We thought we couldn't care for my dad at home safely. Turns out we can care for him better than this place.
My husband went to this rehab after being in Memorial Hospital for chf. He didn't want to go because of stories he'd heard about nursing homes, but the family convinced him. The staff was wonderful, caring, efficient, friendly, and careful with his things and his medical care. They were kind and attentive, from meals to bathroom needs to medication to conversation and therapy and exercises. I saw an immediate change in his attitude about being there and doing his best to get better. If anyone needs personal care and therapy for a loved one in the Yakima Valley area, we whole heartedly recommend this facility.
We sent my grandfather to this place thinking he would be in good hands but it was the opposite. When my grandfather arrived to this place in December of 2021, we were not allowed to visit him per their covid protocols for 10 days, on the 9th day we get a call saying the facility is in lockdown because a staff member tested positive, therefore, we had to wait another 14 days before we could see my grandfather. Unfortunately, a few days later we get a call from the nursing home saying my grandfather was on his way to the ER. Two hours later my grandfather passes away. We had so many questions as to how things transpired and we weren't getting any answers from staff. Instead they became rude and acted like we never communicated with them. After the state conducted an investigation they found that this nursing home had deficiencies. My grandfather's medical records specifically said that isolation would be detrimental to him. WA laws specifically said we had a right to see my grandfather while he was in the facility. I will never send another family member to this facility. I know we aren't the only family this happened to.
I wish we had a good nursing home rehab like Toppenish! My Dad had the best room, care, physical therapy&food! Just too far. This physility offers lots of wonderful activities for the residents. My Dad was super safe and he gained weight that he needed in just the few months he was at this location. I can not thank all the staff enough for caring for my Dad as much as they Did.. While i was an hour away from my Dad i had peace in my heart that my dad was safe and happy. God bless Toppenish Rehab and nursing and staff and all the volenteers. If i lived in town i would let my dad stay as long as he needed to. I cant thank you all enough
I’ve recently experienced a very combative staff member. Also, infection prevention is not something I’ve witnessed at an appropriate level. There are a couple of good caregivers but overall the care received by my loved one was not good at all until I started advocating for him constantly.
