Skilled Nursing: 4 hour shifts- 2:30pm-6:45pm perfect for a high school student! 8 hour shifts 2:30pm-10:45pm, 10:30pm-6:45am Must be State Tested or have completed STNA classes [Every other weekend required] Responsible for the direction of resident care for the nursing/assisted living unit to which he/she is assigned. Monitor the nursing needs for the residents assigned to her which includes but not limited to the following: Monitor resident’s medical conditions and gather data. Monitor the physical, spiritual, psychosocial and social needs of the residents. Directs nurse aides in providing quality resident care. Communicates as necessary with the Nurse Manager or Supervisor, any changes in the residents’ condition or requests for new orders. If at all possible, communication should be done in writing. Be knowledgeable of the job description of the nurse aide and resident attendant. Maintain accurate medical records relative to the residents’ care and condition. May utilize the Medical Records Coordinator for answers to charting questions. Participates in verbal reports both at the beginning and end of the shift. Monitors the performance of the Nurse Aides and Resident Attendants assigned to her. Educates and encourages as necessary but, also, initiates disciplinary action as needed by the use of verbal and/or written warnings. (verbal warnings should also be in writing) Assists in teaching residents good health habits and help direct and encourage their interest in self care. Must be able to coordinate activities between departments such as housekeeping, laundry, social service, dietary and maintenance as needed. Make rounds with the physician if another nurse is unavailable Charting. Oversight of the Nurse Aides and Resident Attendants May communicate with the Resident’s Physician, Family or Significant Other by phone or in person. May secure and implement physician’s orders, being sure to complete the ordering process. Be involved in meeting the Direct Care Needs of the residents as long as it does not interfere with their abilities to carry out their duties as assigned to her as charge nurse. Institute interventions, both ordered and by nursing judgment, to improve resident quality of life, quality of care while maintaining dignity and resident preference.
