We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and empathetic Part-Time Employees in Manteca to work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Hours: 8:00 am to 2:00 pm 4 days per week and 8:00 am to 2:30 pm 1 day per week. 28 hours per week. Monday through Friday. Day shift only. Closed most major holidays. Valley CAPS (Center for Advanced Personal Success) is a licensed non-profit organization that has been in operation since 1976. We provide a variety of programs designed to benefit adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Valley CAPS operates five facilities in two counties and has over 200 adults attending on a daily basis. Our Programs are designed to increase the Participant’s skills in self-care and daily living, academics, communication, and employment opportunities. Job Summary: Our Direct Support Professionals (DSP / Instructors) are responsible for implementing the Participants goals and objectives, supporting each Participants efforts towards their goals, and providing an environment in which the Participants can learn. On-the-job training is provided. Job Duties • Ensures the safety, health, and success of the Participants. • Encourages Participants to express their preferences and choices. • Provide daily trainings in a classroom setting or in the community. • Utilizes existing lesson plans and contributes new ideas to expand the lesson plans. • Assists in lifting and transferring Participants for the purposes of personal care (assisting in the restroom). • Provide physical assistance if requested including personal hygiene (washing hands, brushing teeth, tying shoelaces, etc.), toileting (restroom assistance), and meal preparation (opening containers, using microwave, etc.). • Participates in developing and documenting Individual Service Plans (ISP’s). • Maintains records of Participant progress in obtaining their goals. • Reports, documents, and maintains records of Participant incidents, accidents, and seizures in a confidential manner. • As a mandated reporter, reports all known or suspected incidents of abuse. • Maintains professional and ethical standards. • Supports Valley CAPS’ mission, values, and goals. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. • Must be at least 18 years old. • Experience in working with people with developmental disabilities and general knowledge of developmental disabilities is desired but not required - on the job training is provided. • Clear desire to serve adults with disabilities with empathy and patience. • Must be comfortable assisting adults with personal care including feeding and personal hygiene (restroom assistance). • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly. • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. • Be able to communicate with a variety of supervisors and Participant care teams. Conditions of Employment • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination, lift test (75 lbs.), and drug test. • Must have a negative tuberculosis (TB) test. • Must pass a Department of Justice / FBI Criminal Background Check. • Must have a High School Diploma or GED and be 18 years old (due to background check). Valley CAPS pays for the required pre-employment testing (physical, TB test, and background check) and provides on the job training such as CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen, Pro-ACT, and Person-Centered Thinking Training. 40 Hours of sick time after the first 90 days of employment.
