Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
OVERVIEW: Assist professional Nursing Staff. Assist Residents with personal daily living activities. Furnishes fresh water for Residents, keeps units neat and clean, gives showers and oral care, changes linens, weighs Residents, shaves male Residents, dresses Residents, prepares Residents for meals, and passes out nourishments. Follows all Resident Rights; recognizes and reports appropriately Resident abuse and neglect. Must understand good basic sanitation. Blood and body fluids exposure: Category I. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Keeps confidential all information not specifically authorized to be given to others. -Answers call lights, bells, or intercom system to determine Resident’s needs in a timely manner. -Bathes, provides oral care, dresses, and undresses Residents using therapeutic protocols as directed, and providing direct care in a safe manner. -Serves and collects food trays and feeds Residents requiring help. -Transports residents or assists Resident’s ambulation using gait belts and following proper body mechanics. -Assists Charge Nurses with Residents for examination and treatment, and remains with residents to perform such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights. -Turns and repositions bedfast and wheelchair bound residents, alone or with assistance, to prevent skin breakdown. -Indwelling catheter care and emptying of bag every shift. -Changes bed linens, runs errands, and assists Charge Nurse in performing their duties. -Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, weight, height and food and fluid intake and output as directed. -Performs hydration water passes every shift per policy. -Reports signs and symptoms of infection observed in Residents immediately to Charge Nurse. -Reports change in physical, cognitive and skin condition observed in Residents to Charge Nurse immediately. -Assists in escorting Residents to Activity Programs of their choice. -Conduct rounds to Resident rooms at the beginning of every shift. -Verify Resident’s attendance to meals in the dining room by completing the meal roster. --If Resident is unable to attend meals, will assist in obtaining a meal to be delivered to the Resident’s room. -Observes facility policies and procedures regarding attendance, timeliness, rules, teamwork, customer service, and other policies/procedures that may be introduced from time to time. -Must maintain current CPR Certificate within six months of employment. -Observes and follows safety policies and procedures. -Observes and follows infection control policies and procedures. -Attends all mandatory in-services as required. -Demonstrates positive guest relations to internal and external customers. -Team Members are required to report to their Department Director all incidents of actual or possible abuse of a Resident that they become aware of. Abuse in this respect includes, but is not limited to, verbal, sexual, physical, and/or mental abuse, corporal punishment, involuntary seclusion, neglect, and/or any misappropriation of property concerning St. Mark Village Residents. Team Members will make the report as soon as possible after they become aware of the incident of actual or possible abuse. -May be assigned other related duties and responsibilities as required by Charge Nurse. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Florida, CPR certification and have a sincere desire to care for the elderly. Must have knowledge of procedures and techniques in providing personal care. Understanding of standard techniques in caring for equipment and supplies is required. Individual must maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness. Must have documentation from a health care provider stating that Team Member is free from communicable disease.
