Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Primary Function: The CNA provides direct resident care according to the plan of care and instructions provided by his/her supervisors to meet the physical and emotional needs of the residents at The Pavilion for Health Care. The Certified Nursing Assistant is under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Unit Manager, the charge nurse (RN or LPN) and the Lead CNA. Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program Resident of the state of Florida Must have current Florida CNA license and current CPR certification 1 – 2 years experience in Geriatric care preferred Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains the dignity and confidentiality of the resident, understanding the NO form of abuse is tolerated at The Pavilion for Health Care. Provide basic care of the resident with their ADL’s as follows: • baths, showers, whirlpools, bed baths • skin care, nail and hair care, foot care • toileting including, perineal care, catheter care • assist with feeding Duties also include the following: • positioning, lifting • assistance with ambulation • assistance with transfers to wheelchair, and bed • proficient use of the Hoyer Lift • changing linens • use of gait belt with ambulation/ transfers Additionally, the CNA: • completes assignments in an efficient and timely manner without “rushing” residents • reports any changes in resident’s condition to supervisor and then to the Unit Manager as necessary • encourages residents to attend activities of choice • ensures the safety of the resident’s environment at all times • maintains a clean and pleasant environment • cares for the resident’s belongings as needed Documentation: • Records ADL and any other required information each shift. • Obtain Vital signs and report any change to charge nurse. • Obtain Intake and Output as directed. • Record refrigerator temperatures and dishwasher temperatures as assigned. • Records charges in the resident charge book as appropriate. Behavior and Adherence to Policy • Employee must abide by all safety rules and regulations and adhere to policies and procedures of the facility. • Functions as a cooperative member of the health care team. • Assists co-workers with care of residents as needed. • Maintains a pleasant attitude toward residents and co-workers • Cooperates in creating and maintaining good relationships with co-workers • Displays team-oriented behavior and responds positively to supervisor’s directions. • Demonstrates willingness to accept new tasks, duties, and responsibilities. • Must attend in-service classes as required by state regulations and provided by the facility.
