Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Position: Nursing Assistant Supervisor: Administrator, Director of Nursing, Charge Nurse Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing services policies and procedures. Assist orienting new employees in following established facility policies and procedures. Identify special resident problems and report them immediately to the Charge Nurse. Provide direct resident care as assigned. Conduct daily resident rounds. Initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance from Charge Nurse or Nursing Supervisor. Identify safety hazards and emergency situations, and initiate corrective action. Attend and participate in facility education programs as assigned. Assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the Home. Assume accountability for compliance with state and local regulations assigned and within his/her span of control. Report unusual problems or incidents to the Charge Nurse or Nursing Supervisor. Document incidents and/or unusual problems according to established facility procedures. Participate in the planning, development and implementation of an individualized plan of resident care for residents assigned. Review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined. Document in the nursing assistant notes the care and treatment provided to the resident and the resident’s response or lack of response to the care provided. Report changes in residents’ conditions to the Charge Nurse or Nursing Supervisor. Perform basic nursing skills as outlined in the facility educational program. Follow facility procedures for admission, discharge and transfer of residents. Listen to resident and family complaints and report problems to the Charge Nurse. Control angry feelings. Answer call lights. Make rounds on all residents. Wash and dry soiled residents. Check soiled linen and call lights. Make necessary linen changes. Turn and position every resident that is unable to turn self every two hours. Report to the Charge Nurse anything unusual about residents. Place bedpans, linens, washbasins and soiled linen in proper area. Walk ambulatory residents. Take ambulatory residents to the bathroom every two hours, and as requested. Complete intake and output, and bowel and bladder records. Empty and record all urinary drainage units. Observe infection control procedures. Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision. Follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, Charge Nurses, treatment nurses, restorative assistants, other nursing assistants, physicians, families, consultant personnel and ancillary service providers. Observe all facility safety policies and procedures. Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present a professional appearance. Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner. Assume accountability for data contained in the employee’s handbook. Perform other related duties as directed by the Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Charge Nurse.
