Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Current LPN license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions. Prefer at least two years of experience as a LPN and should demonstrate excellent clinical, customer service and leadership skills. Certified in CPR. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Administrative 1. Keeps administrative nursing staff informed on personnel development. 2. Provides feedback to Nurse Managers regarding performance of nursing assistance. 3. Serves in and participates in committees as assigned. 4. Ability to address service concerns and follow up timely for resolution. 5. Ability to perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Nursing or the Assistant Director of Nursing. 6. Will support all efforts through our Service Excellence Initiative. Clinical 1. Ability to supervise and direct licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel. 2. Develops work assignments for CNA and other subordinate staff. 3. Ability to promote and maintain good working relationship with physicians, lab and pharmacy to ensure proper and safe care of residents. 4. Ability to promote and maintain good working relationship with nursing personnel, other departments, residents, families and visitors. 5. Observes residents on a daily basis. Reports any significant change of resident's condition to the physician. Completes a monthly summary for assigned resident. 6. Monitors to ensure that nursing care documentation is appropriate, concise and timely. 7. Keeps administrative nursing staff informed regarding evaluations of resident care. 8. Makes rounds with physicians, provide pertinent information regarding the residents care/condition and follows through with the physicians orders. 9. Reviews physician's orders, lab reports and contact pharmacy regarding any change in medication. 10. Ability to talk with family members regarding resident's care and/or condition. 11. Ability to complete accident/incident report and do follow up. Will report all accidents/incidents to administrative nursing staff. Will call physician and family. 12. Ability to draw blood, start IV's after appropriate training and perform other standard nursing procedure or treatment when necessary. 13. Communicates staffing problems and needs to unit manager/supervisor. 14. Reports service and unit concerns to the unit manager/supervisor. 15. Receives and provides end of shift reports. 16. Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of residents. 17. Reports maintenance and housekeeping needs accordingly. 18. Administers medication and treatment as ordered. 19. Maintains narcotic records accurately. Notifies unit manager of discrepancies in medication inventories. ___________________________________________________________
