Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
The Memory Care Specialist supports participants in Caring Haven’s dementia respite program by creating safe, engaging, and person-centered experiences for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. This position plays a key role in maintaining a calm, inclusive environment where each participant’s dignity, preferences, and independence are respected. Key Responsibilities Facilitate daily activities such as art, music, exercise, reminiscence, and cognitive stimulation tailored to each participant’s ability level. Support participants with personal care needs including mobility, toileting, and meals as appropriate. Observe and document changes in mood, behavior, and function, reporting promptly to the Program Lead. Assist with setup and cleanup of program spaces to maintain a safe and welcoming environment. Utilize de-escalation, validation, and redirection techniques to manage agitation or distress. Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for caregivers and family members. Participate in staff meetings and required dementia training sessions. Qualifications Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), CNA, HHA, or related training preferred. Minimum two years' experience working with individuals with dementia or cognitive impairment. Compassionate communication skills and commitment to person-centered care. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team setting. Must pass DOJ/FBI background check and health clearance. Schedule and Compensation Schedule: Part-time; weekdays or weekends based on program site needs. Locations: Antioch, Concord, or Richmond (assignment determined by immediate need). Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
