Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
Home Care Aides are providing patient care in the comfort of the home. They provide exceptional Activities of daily living (ADLs) to their patients who cannot perform their daily tasks. Their duties include taking vital signs, bathing, assisting with light housekeeping, dressing, grooming, assisting with meal preparation, and teaching patients self-care skills. They provide long-term or short-term care to both geriatric and pediatric patients. During patient visits, Home Health Aides do a variety of duties based on the patient's plan of care. Qualifications: Home Health Aides must be detail-oriented and able to adhere to strict protocols and rules. Aides must follow doctor and nurse instructions, such as knowing how to treat minor medical issues or reporting changes in the patient's health. They should be reliable and trustworthy so the patient and their family can trust them Must have current and valid HHA certification Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds Must have a valid State of Washington Home Care Aide Certification (HCA) and CPR certification Willingness to work a flexible schedule and to fill in when needed Excellent bedside manner, good effective communication skills, and team player. Ability to explain treatments and conditions to clients of all ages and their families. Must have a working knowledge of home health care principles and techniques of professional nursing and the required documentation that pertains to it. Should be skillful in organization and in the principles of time management and know management processes. Must have strong patient service skills Must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and fingerprinting. Must have a valid driver's license, auto insurance, driving license, and a good driving record. This job requires traveling from patient to patient’s home.
