Home Health Aide (HHA) Job Description
Home Health Aide and Nurse Aides provide routine, personal healthcare, assist with activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and continence care to the elderly, convalescent, or disabled persons in the client’s home or in a residential care facility. Qualifications: The potential candidate will be in good physical and mental health. Must have a genuine, caring interest in the geriatric client and willingness to work under direct and close supervision. The Home Health Aide and the Nurse Aide must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. They should have customer and personal service knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal care. Strongly Recommended: The potential candidate will have a functional cell phone and an active email address. Training Requirements: Have a proven 1 year of work history as a Home Health Aide or have completed a formal Pennsylvania Department of Health Nurse Aide training course. The potential employee must be able to pass the skills and competency test provided by Pampering Plus Inc. with a score of 70 or better. Skills Required: Be an active listener, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate. Be in good health with the ability to exert maximum muscle strength to lift, push, pull or carry objects that weigh a minimum of 50 lbs. Written Comprehension: The ability to be able to read and understand information presents in writing. Responsibilities, Duties and Task: The Home Health Aide and Nurse Aide will provide the following care or services to an assigned client. 1. Assist AM and/or PM care consisting of oral hygiene, bathing in tub or bed, showering, dressing, skin care, perineal care, care of fingernails and hair including shampooing, and shaving male clients as needed. 2. Assist with toileting and continence care including placing client on and off of bedpan, cleaning of bedpans, commodes and urinals, emptying catheter bags (empty often). 3. Meal preparation (maintaining special dietary requirements) 4. Care of laundry (use of washing machine, use of dryer, appropriate temperatures) 5. Light housekeeping including but not limited to linen changes, cleaning bathroom and cleaning kitchen (see light housekeeping description for complete list). 6. Errands consisting of but not limited to food shopping, pharmacy errands, doctors’ appointments, bill payments postal errands, and hairdresser and nail appointments. 7. Assist with client’s medication such as reminding the client it is time to take the medication, reading the label to the client, providing the client with the medication and any necessary supplies/equipment, assisting the client with opening medication bottles, preparing glass of water or other liquid. The home health aide understands that at no time is he or she to administer any medication to any client even if requested by the client. 8. Assisting with mobility such as transferring, range of motion (ROM) exercises as instructed by physician or therapist and ambulation. The use of a Hoyer lift is necessary for transferring clients who are unable to bear weight. If a client does not have a Hoyer lift and no one is available to help, care must be provided in bed. 9. Provide emotional support to clients and their families. 10. Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, and problems in order to report and discuss observations with a supervisor or case manager. 11. Notify Pampering Plus Inc. of any changes in client’s condition as well as hospitalizations. 12. Wash hands for at least 30 seconds immediately before and after any client care 13.
