Job Title: Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

Reports To: Care Coordinator / Supervisor
Job Summary
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides non-medical, supportive services to clients in their homes to assist with activities of daily living and promote safety, comfort, and independence. The PCA works under the supervision of agency management and follows an established care plan to support clients with personal care, household tasks, and companionship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Personal Care Assistants may perform the following non-skilled services, depending on the client’s individualized care plan:
• Assist clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, oral care, and dressing
• Assist with toileting, incontinence care, and mobility/transfers (as permitted)
• Provide standby assistance and supervision to ensure client safety
• Assist with meal preparation, feeding (if needed), and hydration reminders
• Perform light housekeeping tasks, including laundry, dishwashing, and maintaining a clean living environment
• Provide companionship and emotional support
• Assist with errands and grocery shopping (non-medical)
• Accompany clients to appointments or outings when approved
• Observe and report changes in client condition to the supervisor promptly
• Maintain accurate documentation of services provided
• Follow all agency policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous caregiving or personal care experience preferred (training may be provided)
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassionate, dependable, and professional demeanor
Required Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work independently in a client’s home
• Ability to maintain client dignity, privacy, and respect at all times
• Time management and organizational skills
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or assist clients as required (with or without reasonable accommodation)
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to ___ pounds
• Ability to assist with client mobility and transfers as permitted
• Ability to perform household tasks
Compliance Requirements
• Must pass background check and any required screenings
• Valid government-issued identification
• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if travel is required)
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Compliance with state and agency regulations for non-skilled home health services
Work Environment
• Client homes
• May include exposure to pets, smoke, or varying home conditions
