Caregiver Job Description
Follows the service plan to assist the consumer in maintaining a healthful, safe environment.
Performs ONLY those functions specified for each individual consumer on the service plan.
Receives written instructions from the supervisor.
Able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training for consumer services.
Assists persons at home in managing and maintaining a household, dressing, meal prep and incidental household tasks.
Will assist consumers with the following activities:
a. Housekeeping
b. Eating and meal preparation
c. Arranging for transportation to and from appointments
d. Administering emergency first aid
e. Providing or arranging for social interaction
f. Providing transportation
g. Shopping
h. Companionship
Reports any change in the consumer's mental or physical condition or in the home situation to his/her immediate supervisor or Agency Manager.
Completed consumer paperwork on the day service was provided and submits timely, per agency policy.
JOB CONDITIONS
The ability to access consumers’ homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible are required.
Hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment of the consumer's condition and to perform consumer services.
On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach; lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing in English; understand and carry out directions and instructions, record messages and keep simple records.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Completion of a school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must complete an Agency orientation/training.
3. Must be in good physical health; free from health problems that may be injurious to consumer, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate.
4. Must understand and respect consumers, including ethics and confidentiality of service and have a sympathetic attitude toward providing services for consumers.
5. Must have maturity, emotional and mental stability and experience in home services or homemaking.
6. Must have criminal background check and other checks as required by PA regulation.
