Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
TITLE: Certified Nurse Assistant DEPARTMENT: Nursing REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, & Charge Nurse FUNCTIONS: Responsible for providing physical and emotional support, assistance for activities of daily living for residents, to promote the greatest functional level possible. RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS: NOTE: Some descriptions may have more specific duties and/or goals and objectives attached to this form. Such attachments normally reflect unique aspects of specific locations, shifts, departments, etc. *1. Make frequent resident rounds on a regular basis to check the physical comfort, safety, and cleanliness of residents. *2. Maintain compliance with Buckner policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, state and federal laws. *3. Assist with the appropriate implementation of the prescribed health care plan. *4. Provide excellent, safe services in care and treatment including: bathing; feeding; oral care; intake of food; dressing; care of hair, nails; moving residents from area to area; responding to calls, etc. *5. Provide for client’s personal hygiene: give bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assist with showers. *6. Perform I&O; checks vital signs and weight; perform sugar and acetone urine testing, specimen collection and post-mortem care. *7. Provide for Activities of Daily Living: assist with meals and feed patients; ambulate, turn and position patients; provide fresh water and nourishment between meals. *8. Provide for comfort needs of clients. *9. Immediately detect, correct or report situations that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to resident or others. *10. Observe and immediately report resident reactions and changes in condition; take and record vital signs, as required; report observations of patients to nurse caring for the client to ensure professional assessment. *11. Maintain a safe and attractive environment for clients and co-workers; safely transport patients and equipment as appropriate. *12. Instill confidence in the client by maintaining a neat and professional appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner. *13. Utilize resources and materials in an efficient and safe manner. *14. Promptly answer all patients’ call lights and requests. *15. Safely lift and reposition residents as necessary. *16. Professionally intervene in resident disputes or disruptive behavior, if necessary, to maintain proper facility harmony and resident safety; report such occasions to charge nurse immediately. *17. Communicate with family in a friendly, congenial manner; refer to Charge Nurse for medical status reports. *18. Participate in in-service training. *19. Work schedules, assignments and units as requested by the facility to meet business needs. *20. Show dependability by being punctual; maintain consistent attendance. *21. Work as a team member in the delivery of care; maintain good working relationship among all nursing-unit personnel and other hospital employees through appropriate communication. *22. Accept reassignment as needed to provide necessary care for all clients. *23. In special areas, perform duties as defined on specialized skill-list. 25. Perform other assignments and duties as requested.
