Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description

The State Tested Nursing Assistant performs various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents within scope of certification. Essential Functions: 1. Participates in the formulation and follow through of residents` nursing care plan. 2. Adheres to instructions and assumes responsibility for varied duties as assigned by nursing supervisor and/or charge nurse to include admitting, discharging, transferring, and caring for residents. 3. Assists the professional nurse in performing treatments and care. 4. Bathes the resident in bed, tub or shower and provides personal grooming. 5. Makes both occupied and unoccupied beds. 6. Assists residents in and out of bed, in walking, and transports residents throughout the facility via wheelchair, Geri-chair or stretcher utilizing corrects safety measures and resident body positioning. 7. Accompanies residents when transported outside nursing center for appointments. 8. Coordinates scheduling for residents requiring Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and assures residents are available for the therapist on a timely basis. 9. Verifies that all residents have wrist bands, bed, and door tags, and properly identifies residents prior to administering any care. 10. Assists all residents with their meals as needed and provides in-between meal nourishment. 11. Completes record of resident’s intake and output. 12. Responds promptly to resident`s call light or bell; delivers messages; administers bedpans and urinals; and cleans areas of spillage. 13. Performs isolation care as needs for resident`s condition. 14. Participates in the orientation of new nursing assistants. 15. Provides direct care to the more acutely ill resident as directed by nursing supervisor. 16. Reports any/all changes in resident`s condition, any family concerns, and any customers complaints to charge nurse and/or supervisor. 17. Collects bags and soiled linen and delivers to dirty linen area and obtains clean linens and supplies from supply areas. If assigned, washes, and dries them in domestic washer/drier
