Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
The Certified Nurse Assistant provides direct care to residents under the supervision of the Nursing Unit Charge Nurse. Specific Requirements: Completion of a state approved CNA training program Current MA license, in good standing High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred Able to read, write, and speak English in a legible and understandable manner Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Performs tasks according to daily written assignment and instruction from the nurse. Follows all policies and nursing care procedures as instructed and assigned. Reports unusual resident observations, changes in condition, accidents or incidents, or emergency to the nurse. Treats all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity and respect, and sensitivity and empathy for resident physical and emotional needs. Reports suspected or observed resident abuse as mandated by Abuse Statute. Provides direct resident care as identified in each resident Care Plan to include, bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, eating, toileting, range of motion and other forms of assistance with activities of daily living. Cares for residents’ rooms and belongings to maintain a safe and neat environment. Answers resident call lights as promptly as feasible. Keeps call bell within reach of resident. Obtains and records: weights, meal consumption, I & O, Bowel and Bladder records. Turning and positioning schedules, ADL flow sheet, and additional forms of documentation as required. Observes all measures for resident safety to include: use of personal alarms, fifteen minute checks, fall risk assessment, elopement potential, procedures for assisting with transfer, lifting, ambulation, and other measures as indicated in the care plan. Develops and maintains good relationships with co-workers, residents, family members and visitors following customer service guidelines. Supports, participates in, and helps to promote teamwork, cooperation, and a positive work environment. Reports to work as scheduled, reports to work on time, and follow the Nursing Department Staffing/ Scheduling policy to include unit/shift re-assignments as necessary. Observes and adheres to Resident Rights policy and follows HIPPA guidelines. Educational and Physical Responsibilities: Maintains current CNA certification, in good standing, to include 12 hours of continuing education per year. Able to safely lift fifty pounds.
