CNA Job Description – Altenheim St. Louis Brief Job Summary Assist nurses (RN or LPN) in providing nursing care and activities of daily living and other tasks to support care and services for residents. Reports to Charge Nurse and the Director of Nursing Qualifications • Successful completion of a Missouri-approved nurses’ aide-training program • Must understand written and spoken English • Must have current CNA certification and registration with the MO Department of Health and Senior Services • Must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law. • Must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties, which require o Stand/walk on tile and/or carpet 95% of time o Sit, various chairs 5% of time o Pushing up to 25 lbs exertion o Lifting over 100 pounds maximum § Additional person, medical assist equipment including Hoyer lift available o Bending, kneel, crouch, stooping, stretching, pulling and transferring Performance Principles: Certified Nursing Assistants are responsible for providing compassionate direct care and services for residents in collaboration with the care team and other service providers, consistent with the Mission and Values of St. Louis Altenheim. CNA Job Description – Altenheim St. Louis Main Functions • Care for multiple residents in the facility • Observe Resident Rights requirements • Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living and nursing care such as: o Assist with personal and dental hygiene including whirlpool, shower or bed bath as preferred by the resident and most appropriate to level of care needed; o Shaving o Dressing o Feeding: Pass and pick-up food trays and meals. Serve nourishments; Assist with feeding; Keep record of intake and output; monitor dining room during mealtimes, as -assigned o Assist residents in ambulation, mobility and fall prevention o Transfer to and from bed or chair o Reposition resident in bed or chair o Assist to and from toilet, assist with any toileting needs o Provide perineal care (peri-care) as needed to prevent skin breakdown, itching, odor and infection o Monitor and record bowel movements o Pass and empty bedpans, urinals and emesis basins o Collect specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum o Provide post mortem care o Take and record vital signs, height and weight and notify nurse of any changes o Record Activities of Daily Living and care provided on flow sheets o Observe residents and note physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite; report any changes to the nurse o Assist nurse with admitting, transferring, and discharging residents o Assist nurse in giving treatments and examining resident o Assist with restorative and rehab care with proper instruction and supervision o Make beds; change linens and assist in keeping resident rooms and common areas free of fall risk and infection prevention and control hazards o Use safety devices and standard precautions to prevent the spread of infection and disease such as appropriate handwashing and use of gloves Additional functions • Answer call bells/lights • Actively participate in shift change and other routine rounds • Participate in data collection and other activities for Compliance and Quality activities, • Assist with evacuation of resident in an emergency, according to fire and evacuation policy and procedures • Assist in measuring and maintaining par levels and restocking supplies for resident • Assist in maintaining resident records and documentation including peer-to-peer audits of complete and appropriate documentation, setting up and thinning resident records. • Assist Activity/Life Enrichment staff with resident activities on the floors and with transportation of residents to other locations within the facility.
