I am here for long term physical therapy and rehabilitation. I have been a resident for 2 months. Edit to add: There are cockroaches in the facility, in my room. They must be coming from somewhere else, through walls, sockets, etc. We kill 1 or 2 bugs daily and it is getting worse. Several staff have seen, killed, shooed and reported to the supervisor for 2 weeks. I am not sure where it goes from there but nobody has come to look, trap, or treat. I hope there aren't any cockroaches in the kitchen. My partner who visits wants to report to the health department. Room assignment: 1 star. Rooms are double occupancy and small. I have been in 3 different rooms. I left my first due to placement with a known difficult roommate. It took a long time to get moved. I left my second room after a known difficult roommate was moved in with me. I knew the procedure so it only took about 12 hours to get moved. Both of my former roommates now have private rooms. You will encounter incompatibility and difficulty; advocate hard for yourself and rock the boat when you need to. Be willing to move or lose your preferred bed (bed 1 is door side, bed 2 is window side) as people who are asked to move can refuse. You cannot refuse a new roommate. Staffing: 2 stars. There is no admin or office staff on weekends. There are a lot of call outs every weekend. Frequently, the scheduled 8 aides and 2 nurses ends up being 2 aides and 1 nurse who are overworked, doing double shifts, busy, trying to catch up. Meals, meds, and toileting suffer. This is an every weekend issue that needs to be fixed. The staff who do come and stay are pretty amazing. There are a couple difficult/rude aides overnight. There is a way to report or complain about a staff member, but filing a report can be difficult since admin is hard to get ahold of. Therapy/Therapists: 5 stars. They are knowledgeable, caring, understanding, and clearly love what they do. They are very busy and I wish sessions were longer, but they will do things together or back to back or twice a day if they can. Dietary: 3 stars. I am not picky, and I manage my own diet and restrictions well. The food is generally high in sodium and low in whole grains with few raw fruits or veggies. When admitted, the dietary manager will ask about preferences. It is very difficult to change these, as she only works a couple days a week. Planned menus are given out weekly with exchanges (potatoes/rice/noodles etc) based on preferences. There is a substitute menu with soups, sandwiches, salad etc but the aides passing the trays must go back to the kitchen, which can take a while. Medical: 4 stars. Nursing staff are knowledgeable, caring, and generally on point. They follow doctor orders with minor modifications for timing. Sometimes it takes a little pushing if the nurse is filling in or unfamiliar. They communicate well with the doctors. Doctors are available, but busy, on weekdays. They make regular rounds. I was told at admission that there was dental staff on site, but I haven't been visited or successful in my requests to see them as yet. Out of facility appointments: 2 stars. There is an appointment/transport coordinator who communicates with the doctor or hospital that makes the appointment. He is available on weekdays. Appointments made outside the facility are difficult to coordinate between nursing, transport, social work, and aides. Laundry: 1 star. My personal items have been lost, given to other residents, and delayed for delivery. Bed linens are almost always running out. Maintenance: 1 star. They don't work weekends. Beds and lifts are frequently broken or rigged to work temporarily. It took a month to get a broken bed replaced with another repaired bed. My roommate has a broken bed. TVs/remotes have issues. I am still waiting for a remote for the tv after my most recent move. Sink plumbing has been shoddy. Toilets frequently back up from flushing wipes or tons of single ply paper. Wall clocks are maintained manually.
My very beloved family and I are very pleased and happy to have such a great place like WASHINGTON CARE CENTER!. The staff members are very welcome 🙏 us helping with such Joyce in their INTENTIONS! And are there with willingly to help with anything that is important to us is also important to them. They are DOCTORS , NURSES, and the CNAS are working as teams which we've never had experienced that kind of hospitality in the patients and family members before. We are so very grateful 🙏 for all these working very hard every day to help our sick love ones to feelgood and getting better, words a lone cannot express our gratitude for all the times you all have done for us and treating everyone so special as your own family. Again, thank you so very very much and msy God bless us all 🙏!!!.
The weekend Nurse Janice is awesome in every way, She checks all the boxes as it relates to the patient's needs. I'm thoroughly enjoying her doing her job well. I also meant to say as a whole my Brother was treated well there at Washington Care Center
This should be a zero star facility. The staff does not listen to your complaints and treat you like your issues don’t matter. There often is cross contamination from materials used from patient to patient without properly being cleaned. The food is horrible and the utensils are sometimes unsanitary. They are also extremely old. There is strong scent of urine and feces that often fill the hallways. Except to find bugs in your room from time to time. I can’t believe this place is still open. They also give water from the bathroom sink no filtered water. I’d say they need to work on sanitation more. If one patient gets sick on the floor, it spreads like wildfire. You hear the sounds of coughing all day. Trying to contain that sickness into one room once spotted would help the spread tremendously. Also, if you are a light sleeper, don’t even bother coming you will always get woken up especially if you have a roommate who leaves the tv on constantly. I think the staff are accustom to a certain routine and a lot of them do not want to change it for anyone but maybe that is needed. There also is also no communication between the staff. Some patients want something done a certain way but that staff member doesn’t communicate that with their team so you have to keep reminding each new person how you’d like it done. There are new people all the time so that is often. I’ve also noticed that all of the 5 star reviews here are written by their staff which, tells you lengths they are willing to go to change the perception of facility rather than the actual procedures. There is one doctor for the whole facility and she is extremely rude. It takes days and sometimes weeks to see her. I’ve been trying to get my prescription corrected because she made a mistake writing it but she refuses to correct the mistake she made. It’s shocking how unprofessional this place is. Right when you have a little bit of hope for it, they do something so egregious and you start to realize that the place has no hope. DO NOT COME HERE!!!
By the time I arrived at WCC (Washington Care Center)I had already had my surgery, went to another SNiF nearby and re-admitted to the hospital before going to WCC. The 1st SNiF then held my belongings hostage. Thank goodness I am able to speak for myself, otherwise they would have kept all my clothes, art supplies and most importantly my personal medical supplies. The person who runs WCC just happened to see how upset I was in the hallway and asked me what was wrong. The 1st SNiF also knew my home, family & friends' homes were 4 hours away and was told I needed to transport belongings myself. This was just a 4-mile drive. The person who runs the 2nd SNiF said she would pick my belongings up and bring them to me! Above and beyond, and she could have easily handed this off to someone else. The 1st SNiF really wanted to keep all my belongings because all I got were 2 empty suitcases. I don't know all the details, but after SNiF #1 claimed that my belongings were MIA, they magically were delivered in 2 large boxes to the SNiF #2. For SNiF #2 (WCC) I needed to stay for 3 weeks. They are so attentive and work together nicely. I had great doctors, nurses, support staff, PT, OT, and kitchen staff. I honestly feel they deserve a much higher rating. Let's talk food. I unfortunately didn't lose any weight from the food or from not eating. It isn't the best, but it certainly is within health guidelines. I did not care for dinner at 4:30pm, but it's hard to feed 3 floors of patients at 6pm, hahaha. All and all, I would have no problem having any of my family and friends going to WCC to do their recovery. One patient told me, and I quote, "I have lived in many SNiF's before coming here and this one is by far is the best that Washington state has and I have lived here for the last 11 years"! Honestly, I can't recall if I was told 8 or 11 years, but what a great thing to hear a patient say. What was the name of the other SNiF you ask? Avamere Park West. For many, many reasons, do not have yourself, family or friends go to that facility, but do go to Washington Care Center.
