Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Responsibilities
• Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) in accordance with residents’ care plans.
• Maintain residents’ dignity, privacy, and rights at all times.
• Assist with mobility, hygiene, toileting, grooming, and dressing needs.
• Prepare and serve meals according to dietary requirements and preferences.
• Keep the home clean, safe, and organized (housekeeping, laundry, sanitization).
• Accurately document daily care notes, incident reports, and changes in resident condition.
• Administer medications following home policy and nurse delegation instructions.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and report changes in resident condition to management.
• Support residents during appointments, social activities, and outings.
• Maintain open communication with residents’ families, staff, and management.
• Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation promptly per DSHS regulations.
• Participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and continuing education.
Qualifications
• Must pass DSHS Background Check and TB screening.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English clearly.
• Must demonstrate professionalism and compassion when interacting with residents, families, and professionals.
• Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent personal care and infection control skills.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
Required Training & Certification
Basic Training:
• Current CNA or HCA in Washington State without restrictions, OR
• Exempt long-term care worker (with proof of employment/training between Jan 1, 2011–Jan 6, 2012), OR
• Willingness to complete HCA or CNA training within 120 days of hire and pass state certification within required timeframe.
