Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Position Purpose: The Nurse shall furnish services in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, and shall be utilized in accordance with basic principles of the professional nurse. All functions shall be performed in accordance with the established policies and practices of agency and/or the particular institution in which the registered nurse is assigned. The Registered Nurse performs functions which require substantial specialized knowledge, judgement, and skill based upon the principles of psychological, biological and social sciences and must be able to make nursing judgements accordingly. The Registered Nurse reports directly to the Clinical Director. Qualifications: Professional and Personal 1. Have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing. 2. Have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state in which practicing. 3. Have at least one (1) year experiencing in an acute care setting or equivalent experience. 4. Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate nursing judgements. 5. Posses good interpersonal communication and teaching skills. 6. Exhibit professional behavior. 7. Possess and maintain good physical and mental health, including current TB testing (refer to Health Screening Policy). 8. U.S. Citizen or evidence of valid Alien Work Permit. Specific Functions/Responsibilities: 1. Provide quality, professional nursing care. 2. Demonstrate dependability. 3. Maintain a safe environment for clients. 4. Make initial assessment visit and regularly re-evaluate the client's nursing needs. 5. Initiate the Plan of Care and make necessary revisions. 6. Provide those services requiring substantial and specialized nursing skills. 7. Perform total client care. 8.Maintain an accurate clinical record preparing clinical and progress notes with follow through of timely record keeping. 9. Initiate preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures and techniques. 10. Communicate effectively with all the members of the interdisciplinary team. 11. Inform the Physician, Clinical Director and other personnel of changes in the client's condition and needs. 12. Perform therapeutic procedures prescribed by the physician. 13. Supervise and teach professional and paraprofessional staff per agency guidelines. 14. Work with families and other health care professionals in providing continuity of client care. 15. Counsel the client and family in meeting nursing and related needs. 16. Demonstrate knowledge of current health practices when performing observation and evaluation of client care. 17. Function adequately whenever assigned to a specialty assignment after qualifying with specialty training, proven competency, clinical background and experience in the specialty area. 18. Assume responsibility for professional growth and development by active participation in continuing education, inservice programs, orientation and personal evaluation. 19. Accept and fulfill assignments with the agency. 20. Exercise judgement in accepting assignments. 21. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary. Physical/ Environmental Demands: Must be able to see, hear, speak, touch, smell, sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb stairs, push and/or lift 10-100 lbs. Participate in direct care and be adaptable to a variety of home/community settings. Must be able to travel/drive in all types of weather.
