Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) assists the professional staff by performing various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the residents. Responsible for the delivery of resident care as directed by an RN or LPN. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards Major Duties Assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) by serving meals and feeding residents as needed; offering fresh water and snacks; helping residents ambulate; and turning, positioning, and transferring residents. Takes care of residents’ personal hygiene by assisting with or giving bed baths, baths, or showers; toileting by offering bedpans and walking residents to the toilet; providing skin care and keeping patients clean at all times. Other Duties includes but are not limited to: Complies with HIPAA Privacy Act by protecting confidential patient information. Follows all policies and procedures to maintain a safe clinical setting. Participates in all training and continuing education. Maintains licensure to meet federal, state, and accreditation standards. EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Graduation from a State-approved training program. Must have current CNA license, in good standing, with the State licensing board. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of resident care procedures in a long term care facility. Ability to work well with geriatric patients. Ability to complete and record documentation consistent with job requirements; cognitive skills as related to the position. Must have skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate equipment and machines used in the performance of this job (mechanical lifts, shower equipment, adjustable chairs/beds, etc.), as well as the demonstrated ability to transfer and transport residents in wheelchair, bed, specialty chair, etc. Must have proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills.
