Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description
This is lead professional nursing work overseeing all patient care activities on a shift of an assigned nursing unit in the County inpatient nursing home facility. A position in this class ensures patient care coverage, the provision of ancillary services, and the coordination of medical, nursing, social and related services. Duties include making and reviewing work assignments for lower-level nursing personnel, including some responsibility for ensuring effective provision of related functions. This class is differentiated from related classes by the responsibility for all unit activities on a given shift. A position in this class reports directly to higher-level supervisory nursing personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice
Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians
Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients
Provide instant medical care in emergencies
Supervise and train LPNs and nursing assistants
Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families
Expand knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences etc.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices and standards. Thorough knowledge of nursing methods and techniques commonly employed in inpatient nursing facilities.
Knowledge of methods and techniques used in coordinating medical, nursing and ancillary service provision.
Ability to assign and review the work of lower level nursing personnel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, and patients and their families.
Ability to lift, support and maneuver patients of limited physical capacity in order to give treatments, provide personal care, and demonstrate patients care activities.
Ability to keep records of activities and prepare reports from them.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Some professional nursing experience, in an inpatient facility. Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
