Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Based out of our Christiansburg, VA location. Responsibilities: 1. Work under the general supervision of a registered nurse and the direct supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to provide services according to the patient’s plan of care, a. Assist patients with activities of daily living, ambulation and prescribed exercise, and other special duties with appropriate training and demonstrated competency that are part of the hospice aide plan of care. b. Assist with oral or topical medications that the patient can normally self-administer. c. Take and record vital signs as indicated in the plan of care; d. Measure and record fluid intake and output; 2. Record and report to the health care professional changes in the patient’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance. 3. Document services and observations in the medical record. 4. Participate in: a. Interdisciplinary team meetings b. Staff meetings and retreats c. Patient care meetings when schedule permits 5. Complete a minimum of 12 hours of relevant in-service education annually. In-service training may be in conjunction with on-site supervision. 6. Perform any other duties that the hospice aide is qualified to do by additional training and demonstrated competency, within state guidelines. 7. Actively promote the mission of Good Samaritan Hospice. Participate in discussions about patient/family satisfaction scores and work with the organization to provide excellent care. 8. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor. Qualifications: 1. Hold certification as a CNA (nurse aide) issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing 2. One year of experience as a CNA, preferably in home health, hospice or a long-term care facility. 3. Be able to follow oral and written instructions. 4. Be able to speak, read and write English. 5. Emotionally mature, sensitive to the needs of, and physically capable of working with patients who are terminally ill and their families. 6. Good verbal and written communication, telephone, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with team members. 7. Good computer skills. 8. Current Virginia Driver’s license and driving record that meets the standards set forth in current policies.
