Home Care Aide (HCA) Job Description
At L’Arche Spokane, we seek to bring the power of community to life, fostering a world where people with intellectual disabilities can thrive. You will build community with core people (individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities) and other staff through shared daily life—eating meals together, exercising, activities, community celebrations and events, etc. You will help care for the community home—grocery shopping, gardening, cleaning, and cooking. You will also be trained as a Residential Support Special / Direct Support Professional (known as a Care Assistant in our community)—supporting core people with doctors’ appointments, medication assistance or administration, transportation, finances, and personal care.
Care is one of the most fundamental things that humans do. Our Care Assistants should have the desire and capacity to learn from and relate to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while working well within a team to provide high quality, specialized care that ensures everyone’s safety and well-being. This community care model operates in a context that values mutual relationships, and both individual and corporate spirituality.
Live-in Care Assistants are people who choose to live in a L'Arche home with core people and other assistants, supporting the home during scheduled hours. This job is full-time (40 scheduled hours a week) with two consecutive days off. (You are not required to be onsite during your unscheduled time.) Live-out Care Assistants live elsewhere, supporting the L'Arche home during scheduled hours.
