Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description

Job Summary: To provide basic elder care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and assists in the maintenance of the household. Essential Functions: • Assists with personal care under the supervision of the household nurse • Wear a transfer belt at all times and use it for all assisted ambulation and transfers • Perform basic household functions including spot cleaning of closets, high stand, beds, mattresses, side rails, drawers and over bed tables • Assist nurse in monitoring order • Assist co-workers in tidying dayrooms, utility rooms, spa, and any other areas around the household • Immediately spot-mop any spills or wet areas which occur during shift • Assist elder transfers or complete cares require the assistance of two people • Is familiar with all rules of safety • Provides PROM to elders • Serves, assists and feeds residents at mealtimes • Assists with passing of nourishments and water • Answers call lights promptly • Reports to nurse any information regarding condition, complaints or other needs • Cooperates with licensed nurse to monitor dining room • Assists coworkers with transferring elders • Charts all pertinent information in appropriate place or flow sheet • Assures household is in good order at the end of shift • Reports to nurse before leaving the household • Act as coach to new employees or interns • Understands and implements infection control standards especially hand washing and linen handling • Adheres to Resident Bill of Rights • Observes facility and household safety and infection control protocol • Follows emergency procedures • Follows dress code • Observes confidentiality of residents, employees and facility information • Other duties as assigned Physical Demands: Be able to deal effectively with residents who may be physically and mentally abusive, have a good understanding of basic body mechanics, able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and be able to push/pull up to 75 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, bend, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full/part-time, various shifts Minimum Qualifications: • Registered nursing assistant on Minnesota registry • Able to speak, read, and write the English language • Proficient technical and communication skills Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in long term care
