This is your chance to make a significant impact and be part of something truly special. Monitor, prevent, and report the spread of infection. Collect and document resident and staff infection data. Monitor infection control practices for compliance. Participate in quarterly Quality Assurance and Review Committee meetings, presenting infection trends and other pertinent data. Attend monthly Safety and Infection Control meetings & present findings/outcomes. Assist in reporting infectious disease processes as required by the Department of Health. Provide training to employees regarding standard precautions, handwashing, infectious waste handling, blood borne pathogen exposure control, TB, and more. Implement and oversee TB Infection Control Plans and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plans. Conduct and record tuberculosis testing and influenza vaccinations for residents and employees and ensure annual review. Track pneumonia immunizations for all residents. Provide continuing education/in-service training opportunities to ensure optimal performance of all staff. Monitor the training needs of the Home and its employees. Develop and implement on-going employee in-service training programs to meet the needs of the Home, its employees, and state and federal rules, statutes and regulations. Provide annual training for all employees in Infection Control, Bloodborne Pathogens, and TB. Provide Nursing Assistant skills training at orientation and ongoing as needed. Maintain accurate employee in-service records. Attend meetings and continuing education as required. Practice and support the Home policies. Duties as assigned by the DON Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Current registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse in good standing 3 years nursing experience in a nursing home/geriatric setting or equivalent. Prior Experience in Infection Control Responsibilities is required. Valid CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Certification. Skills and Abilities Willingness to support, promote, and model the core philosophy of the Little Sisters of the Poor in the spirit of Jeanne Jugan, in partnership with the Little Sisters of the Poor. Working knowledge of CDC and OSHA regulations for infection control and all State and Federal regulations related to long-term care. Ability to promote a spirit of respect and cooperation among residents and employees. Ability to work a schedule that occasionally changes to meet the needs of the Home. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population, individually and in groups. Good interpersonal and time management skills. Ability to work with minimal direction independently and as a member of a team. Working knowledge of CDC and OSHA regulations for infection control and all State and Federal regulations as applied to long term care. Knowledge of the adult learning process. Basic computer skills.
