Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description
Essential (E) and Non-Essential/Marginal (M) Duties: 80% Responsible for the total care of Residents and the accuracy of nursing care records in accordance with the Jeanne Jugan model of care. E Assure nursing care to Residents is in compliance with recognized standards, federal, state and licensing regulations and Home policies. E Assure a comprehensive plan of care is established and implemented for each resident and reviewed according to state and federal regulatory standards. E Participate in selection of prospective Residents based on nursing care needed and nursing personnel competencies available. E Participate in discharge and transfer planning for Residents. E Coordinate and monitor ancillary Resident services both within and outside the Home. E Interact with physicians to plan care for Residents. 20% Support the functions of the nursing department and the Home. E Establish and routinely revise general nursing care policies and procedure, developing policy and procedure manuals and written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel. E Assign duties, supervise and evaluate performance of all licensed nursing personnel. E Delegate and monitor non-nursing responsibilities to other staff consistent with their training, experience, competence and legal authorization, and with Home policy. E Participate in recruitment, interviews and selection of nursing personnel, recommending hiring and termination. E Determine with the administrator the numbers and levels of nursing personnel to employ. E Participate in planning, decision-making and budgeting for nursing care. Qualifications: Minimum Education and Experience Current registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in good standing and 2 years similar administrative experience in a nursing home/geriatric setting or equivalent. Skills and Abilities • Willingness to support, promote and model the core philosophy of the Little Sisters of the Poor in the spirit of Jeanne Jugan, in partnership with the Little Sisters of the Poor. • Ability to promote a spirit of respect and cooperation among residents and employees. • Ability to work a schedule that occasionally changes to meet the needs of the Home. • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population, individually and in groups. • Good interpersonal and time management skills. • Ability to work with minimal direction independently and as a member of a team. • Basic computer skills.
